My 1000th post
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 06:42 PM by Blue_In_AK
First of all, a big THANK YOU to all of you DUers for educating, entertaining and encouraging me, each in your own individual, unique ways, in these weeks since Black Tuesday. It's heartening to know that there are so many others who share my concern for the future of our country and who care enough to do something about it. Because of you all and your refusal to give up and become apathetic, I remain hopeful.

Secondly, given the fractiousness that I've seen here this weekend, I thought it might be a good time for us to think about the things that bind us, that we have in common ... the things that make us Democrats and Progressives and that distinguishes us from those other guys. To me, it is our compassion and sense of justice and fair play that sets us apart.

Your thoughts?

1. Congratulations B-In-AK!
It's like an oasis of sanity in here, eh? True, there are differences, but vive les différences!

so far we haven't given up. There is a lot worth saving in this country, and I think we're united in our desire to save it.

3. Congratulations Blue
:toast: I have always enjoyed your posts.

After the selection, my biggest fear was that all of the people that worked so hard for chance would disappear. Not only did that not happen, our numbers are growing every day.

We are making the corporate media obsolete. We are organizing at the local level, and working toward change in our local communities and state legislatures.

There are so many good people working their hearts out to bring about justice and change, that I can't help but believe that we will prevail in the end.

5. Good grief - a positive, inspiring post !
I was expecting you to show a picture of your cat or your prize canary or something, or else to say, "go ahead, ask me anything".

Maybe DU had a bad weekend -- I guess it's bound to happen sometimes. My thoughts are this (and thank you very much for asking): Working together maybe we can bring some sanity back to this country. Doing something positive is better than saying something negative, especially if it's about a fellow DUer. Supporting Democrats and Progressives who fight hard against the Bush/GOP lunacy is the best way to take back our country.

And last, but not least, DU is a really great place.

I see we joined right about the same time, too, except you beat me by a few days. It's amazing how the posts pile up, isn't it?

Black Tuesday was the final straw. Many eyes were opened. We can do so much better than this! By working together we can create a new world. Just leave those narrow-minded dinosaurs in the dust. I celebrate these exciting new beginnings. We will rise from the ashes into the clouds. Keep networking, keep talking, keep the energy up. Things are moving.

17. 1000 posts! This calls for a celebration! Congratulations to you!
And you just joined last year...You have been a very busy lady! Especially since each post (at least the thoughtful ones) takes some work at composing and what-not. Unless you excel at stream-of-consciousness writing...

Now, as to what we have in common, and what sets us apart from the freepers: I think that we believe in the essential goodness of the uncorrupted person. We have hope for the future. And we can (and do) see the subtleties in our lives. I agree completely with our sense of justice, compassion and fair play as being pivotal. I know that I always look for the good in people. This means of course that you can be hurt, and I have been, but I continue to operate this way. I like the following sentiment: "I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do, I will; for I shall not pass this way again." I don't remember who said it or where I read it, but I believe in its goodness, and I try to live my life according to it. I think that we Democrats/Progressives tend to look at life this way.
