it's pricey, but quite delicious.
If you've never had it before, perhaps you could make some at home and see if you like it - it's a lot cheaper than in a restaurant. It's also pretty easy to cook - just boil the bugger.

pre-eat before you pick her up & then when its time to order, say "i'm not that hungry, i'll just have a salad".
then she'll feel obligated to get a salad too, and you save beaucoup d'argent.

but if you're not used to eating lobster, I'd suggest ordering lobster tails. Lobster is very difficult to eat without making a mess/fool of yourself. Lobster tails are much easier to handle.

When done correctly, it is a sublime experience; a subtle inflection of sweet taste and rich texture across the palate. Done wrong, it's akin to eating rubbery fish. I love it, but there is SO MUCH waste of the critter, I eat it very rarely.

12. It depends on how well you know this girl |
|
Lobster is great, but you come out looking like a toddler who got handed the spoon for the first time when you eat it. It gets all over everything.
If this lady is someone whom you don't mind looking like a slob in front of (and who doesn't mind looking like a slob in front of her), go for the lobster. OTOH, if you're not quite that firmly attached to one another, shrimp is a better way to go.
And if you're very firmly attached to her (as in "I'm gonna propose tomorrow" attached), crawfish are great fun--they taste good and you come out looking like you fell in the pot with them.

23. To avoid messiness, just order Lobster Tails. |
|
Cracking the claws can be messy.
The tails are the best part anyway. First remove the meat from the tail shell. Then use a knife and fork, cut bitesize pieces, dip in butter (no, not with your knife, silly!) and it is a very clean and tasty culinary experience. Just don't slurp like my father used to. It's disgusting.

Just ask that the Lobster be "cracked" before being served. It will make it easier to eat. Yummy!

14. NEVER eat seafood on a MONDAY (in a restaurant)... cause |
|
the professionals say, it's the leftovers from the weekend purchases. They're using up the old stuff before they go to market on TUESDAY.

Lobster is wonderful
I recently had a 3 lb. lobster, though, and it was so big that I had a lot of trouble cracking the claws.

I don't like lobster. I had it for the first time when I was in early elementary school and found it disgusting. I've tried little bits of it a few times since then and I still don't like it. I don't like crab, shrimp, or most fish either though so take it for what it's worth.

Fantastico, especially if the lobster is very fresh. Lobster bisque (creamy lobster soup) can be sublime if done right.

17. Has she had lobster before? |
|
If she knows how to break down a lobster, this could be educational for you. Ask her. If she is a lobster "pro," she'll be happy to indoctinate you, and maybe it's about time. (There's nothing better.) Lobster tails are a different animal, and while not quite as good are a lot easier to handle than a Maine lobster. If you are outside the northeast, real Maine lobster is harder to find and the question might be moot.
Whatever happens, have a good time.

When I lived in Connecticut, a cozy mom-and-pop restaurant near my house had 2-for-1 lobster night every Friday in season. $7.95 + tax & gratuity. Let's just say the lobster bibs were greatly appreciated!

When I was a kid in Nova Scotia, the poor kids brought lobster for lunch, the rich kids, baloney. You figure out why.
edited to add: to this day, I LOVE seafood, lobster, clams, shrimp, mussels. But not oysters. Look like mucus.

I'd never eat an animal that looked like it did when it was alive. I find it repulsive.
And the cracking it open part...well....ewwww.
