What should I do with a dog we found? |
|
It is the old story -- kids were followed home from school by a small poodle-like dog (5.5 lbs.). He is very good with the kids and our dog seems to like him. I took the pup to the vet, got shots and a shampoo. He needs to be groomed -- very badly. He is about 2 years old and malnourished. The vet and the police said to wait a few days and then go to the pound, say we found him and would like to adopt him. My question to DU is -- how actively do I seek the owner. I have asked around the neighborhood and the kids did too, no one knows the dog. So do I just call him ours?

1. Check your local telephone directory |

for animal rescue places. Leave a "found" description there and with vets within a resonable distance as well as pound. You might put up a notice at or around your kids' school. If you don't get any action after a couple of weeks, I would say he's yours.
Assuming you want him. If you don't want him, give him to the animal resue people. Pound dogs have short lives if not claimed.
