The Worst Part About Moving Is.....PACKING!!!!
God, this sucks. I have boxes of stuff all over the place. I still gotta figure out what I can box up now, and what I gotta keep out, since I'm not moving for two weeks yet....but damn, I just KNOW I'm gonna box up something that later I will find that I need...and then I won't fuckin' be able to FIND it...just watch....it always happens like that...

So far, I have boxed up all my books, VCR tapes and DVD's, most of my plates, bowls, glasses, pots, pans, cooking utensils...a lot of the stuff that isn't used on a daily basis from the bathroom....tomorrow, I am going to box up a lot of clothes that I won't be wearing for a while...I have already boxed up most of the towels, sheets, blankets, pillows...damn, where does it all END???

Fuck packing. It sucks. I've had enough for tonight, i'm spending the rest of the night HERE.

2. Here's the trick - print out a shitload of sticky labels
I used the "six to a page" type when I moved.

Every sticker has your name, your new address, and your new phone number and/or your cell phone number.

Every sticker also has space for a box number.

Every box gets three stickers - one on top, one on the long side, and one the short side.

Keep a notebook - in that notebook, write down the box number, and then everything that goes in that box.

Also, include another sticker that goes on top of the box that tells where the box goes: i.e., "kitchen", "bathroom", "living room". That will help the movers - they can then easily and immediately move everything into the room it needs to be in. When I moved, I could only do "kitchen" and "bathroom" since I was going to re-arrange everything, but do whatever you can. It really, really helped having all the kitchen boxes labeled.

It's a bit more time consuming, but I'll tell ya, it saved me a SHITLOAD of hassle and time later on when I needed to either find something before I moved that had been boxed up, or after I got in the new place and wanted to start unloading specific, immediately needed things.

And yeah, moving is a total pain in the ass.

I bet I threw away a hundred pounds of shit I realized I didn't need as I was packing, and gave away another hundred pounds. And then, when I was unpacking, I ended up throwing away some more shit.

So, best of luck to you - the process of moving sucks.

3. I think unpacking is the worst part!
I have moved several times and it seems when I unpack my stuff has multiplied! There is a lot more than what I packed and I don't know what to do with it all! One time I was in such a hurry I didn't mark anything so I had all these "mystery" boxes. Five years later I find a belt I was looking for! Whatever you do, try to mark your boxes and keep like stuff together--like kitchen, clothing, etc. Otherwise its going to be a mess to try and find anything when you get to your new place. Also, this is the time to chuck anything you don't really need.

4. Thanks
I have already chucked a bunch of shit, and I'm gonna be chucking more, too.

some stuff I just don't chuck, though...like my box of old computer parts...I may end up NEEDING some of those some time when I am working on my computer, or upgrading a friend's computer (I'm very good with hardware)

Example, the computer I'm on now started freezing up...when I opened it up I figured out why....the CPU fan was stuffed with dust and cigarette smoke...ended up having to replace the CPU fan and the power box. Well, I happened to have those parts handy from an old computer...so, no big deal!

So now my computer runs great again...

But I have chucked a lot of useless shit, and will be chucking more. In fact, I have designated tomorrow as another "garbage day" where I go thru what is left out and decide if I am even going to keep it or not. Yesterday, I threw out four kitchen garbage bags full of no-longer-needed shit.

5. the worst part is staying in an empty house
while all your stuff is in boxes in another city.

trust me.

it's me, a laptop, an airmattress from linens&things and a suitcase of clothes.

been camping in my house for two weeks - don't want to leave it empty in winter (pipes might freeze etc) and closing isn't for two more weeks.

empty empty house -
kitties and husband are living in our new city surrounded by boxes... given on one hand :empty house
and on the other: kitties and surrounded by boxes...

i'm thinking boxes and kitties and husband win hands down!

i feel for ya tho - i KNOW where you're coming from!

believe me!
