1. There's very little lactose in cheese. |
|
Are you sure it wasn't some other problem?

7. We are all lactose intolerant. Different bodies handle lactose |
|
in different ways, but, we stopped producing the enzymes in our bodies to break down milk protein at the age of 3, naturally, the age when we should stop drinking our mother's milk.

You saved me some time..lol. I thought it was younger than 3, but I'm sure I am wrong. We only produce "lactine"? for a short time.

certain ethnic groups such as Northern Europeans and the Masai in Africa can digest milk all their lives. I assume they would lose the ability if they stopped, but I don't know. I'm extremely tolerate of dairy products and love milk, ice cream, cheese, etc. Sorry you guys.

Some people like most Northern Europeans never lose those enzymes. Most of the rest of us must culivate lactose digesting bacteria in our intestines. Some people have an easier time cultivating them than others. From what I understand, a lot of people can work themselves up to consuming more dairy, but they have to do it gradually. Antibiotics and diarrhea can wipe that all out though.

I took a chance and bought some Ben & Jerry's coffee ice cream the other day but I have to be careful to only eat a small portion at a time. My guts are screwy anyway. I have to be really careful about what I eat.

dairy becomes harder and harder to digest. (Trust OldLeftieLawyer on this.) But, this stuff - http://www.ganedenbiotech.com/index.php?page=DALI - takes care of everything. (Trust OldLeftieLawyer on this, too.)

The rewards of being older far outweigh the physical drawbacks.
The power. You cannot imagine the power you have. It surprised the hell out of me and my cohorts.
It's great. Don't let anyone kid you. It's the best.

10. I use lactase tablets all the time |
|
Lact-aid, Ultra Lact-aid, etc. Worth every penny.
If I'm going to eat anything with dairy in it (except butter), I take a tablet. If I don't, I'll be sick for hours.
Also I buy lactose-reduced milk for cereal and tea.
I became lactose-intolerant in my early 20s but didn't know what the cause of my tummy problem was for more than a decade.
Lactose intolerance is sometimes due to your ancestry. Many African and Asian people are lactose-intolerant. Have you ever seen a Chinese menu that offered cheese or other dairy products?
Take your tablets and good luck!

LactAid also makes a lactose-reduced cottage cheese, and I think they might make ice cream too.
The godfather of one of my kids is African-American. He was astonished to find out that I was lactose-intolerant. My background is eastern European.
His comment to me, "I didn't know white people could get that!"

18. Lactose inolerance is getting much more prevalent |
|
The reason is the wanton use of antibiotics in this country.
Just as bad bacteria are getting drug-resistant, so are the good bacteria that are supposed to live in our guts getting killed off by the antibiotics, and no amount of acidophilus can replace them.
American medicine - leading the way in screwing the patient.

12. I Drink Lactaid, but, I cheat sometimes with "cottage cheese", and, |
|
other cheeses as Bries, Camemberts, Cheddars, etc. Sometimes, especially the cottage cheese "flies" through my intestinal tract, other times there is no problem. I have had intermittent problems with dairy products all my life, but, it was a strong supplement in my family growing up. We used to go through extreme quantities of "buttermilk"; the real stuff, with the butter on the top. Now I drink it, but, it isn't really buttermilk. It more of a skim milk with a culture similar to that of yogurt. Which brings up another possible remedy for the dairy aversions. Yogurt contain enzymes, such as "acidophilus", which aid the intestinal balance of digestion. It is also quite helpful when taking "anti-biotics"; which have a tendency of ameliorating the viable number of "good" bacteria in one's intestinal tract for proper digestion.

without taking the Lact-Aid tablets.
Different people have different levels of lactose-intolerance. Some can eat a limited range of diary products, others can't. I can get incredibly sick from one bite of cheese.

16. The Lactaid pills did nothing for me. I use Silk soy milk. I used to be |
|
able to find something called "Vitamite" which was actually a decent tasting substitute for milk in the dairy section, but I can no longer find it.

25. my daughter is slightly lactose intolerant, she is more affected |
|
by big glasses of milk than anything else. I buy her lactose free milk and she does ok.
Cream and icecream don't seem to bother her, she handles cheese ok unless she eats a whole lot at one time.
It was worse then she was in her preteen and early teen years. She is 20 now and is much better.
