Already, Schwarzenegger displays his ignorance of California state law
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 09:26 PM by NightTrain
The following is excerpted from an AP story that ran on Friday:

(The governor-elect)...called on Gray Davis not to make any more appointments or sign legislation in the waning days of his administration, although Schwarzenegger acknowledged it is Davis' right to do so.

"I would really like it if he doesn't sign any more bills, as far as that goes," Schwarzenegger said.

(snipped)

Davis spokesman Steven Maviglio said Davis will continue to make appointments and act on legislation. He added, "The governor-elect might be interested in learning that bills that Governor Davis does not act on before October 13th automatically become law."

In California, the governor may veto a bill, sign it, or allow it to become law without signing it.

Nice going, Ah-nold! Yeah, you're going to make a wonderful governor.

Just as his worst critics feared, Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning to settle the state's pending lawsuits against several price-gouging power companies. "For three years, California has been engaged in a costly legal battle against dozens of energy companies it said ripped off the state by purposely withholding much-needed electricity from consumers, creating an artificial shortage while boosting the companies' profits. Federal regulators ordered electricity refunds for California totalling about $3.3 billion, but Davis said the state deserves at least $9 billion and 'not a penny less.' ... Schwarzeneggeer aides said the lawsuits are deterring energy companies from building power plants in California, which could lead to another energy crisis in 2006, and the legal wrangling alone is costing the state millions of dollars. 'It's time to settle and move on,' a top aide to Schwarzenegger said. 'We don't want to inherit litigation.'"

3. Gropinator - Just Pete Wilson with muscles
Pete Wilson all over again. He's the one who gave us energy deregulation. Now he's going to make sure Calif doesn't get any refund from the gouging energy companies who stole 9 bill from us!
