What do you love most about DU? How has it made you happier? |
|
I have been reading Du since nearly it's inception (and I miss you Khephra) and love the diversity of ideas and opinions people here have. It has made me happier by filling a need I have on a deep level.
We might now always agree on the subject, but I have found myself happy here - as has my wife, AutumnMist (buxom red-head and wild hippie).
After the in-laws come and go I will be making another contribution to the site to help keep it kicking along, and even though we just had a fund raiser for those able I hope you will kick some more cash towards the efforts of Skinner. I know I will be soon, well worth it.
How did you learn of DU, what does it mean to you, and what are you doing up at this hour that you are reading this thread :)
God Bless my friends, I hope this thread finds you happy and well!
PS - to the lady who does book repairs here: I was planning on sending you some books to repair, but mom died and life went to hell. I am still hoping to get you some books so please contact me. Sorry I lost your emails :( but I still have some business to send your way!

4. It is the people who make up DU whom I love the most. |
|
I might have utterly gone insane after this last joke of an election had it not been for the people of DU. You guys and gals make me laugh out loud with your clever quips, and you motivate me into collective action when the time is ripe. You people care about our country, and it shows by your deeds, words and actions. DU'ers are some of the best patriots in this country. They give, and give and give. Hear me Andy? Skinner, thank you for providing this avenue for people of like minds to get together and DO SOMETHING!

5. I like that it feels safe |
|
I live in rural red-land in a red state. Kind of drifted away from otherwise good friends and neighbors because of bush and the war so having a safe place to rant about that (or not) is nice.
I think I found this site through spinsannity which I found looking for stuff on Ann Coulter, believe it or not. Had been away from mainstream media for a few years and got the computer hooked up and the first bbs I joined was a small semi-local one where I was the only liberal on it - got into some great discussions with this fairly intellectual conservative guy till he started quoting her and recommending her books. I couldn't BELIEVE she was real. Still don't.
Anyway DU is a place I like to come hang out and just learn things and contribute when I can, love some of the humor to be found here, off topic conversations in the lounge. And its the BEST place for computer advice!

6. CNN started a segment on what people were saying about news items |
|
on the blogs. I had never been on a blog and knew very little about them. I entered "blog" into my search engine and a list of blogs came up. I saw DU on the list and have logged on everyday since. I have enjoyed talking to people who think like I do and feel strongly about issues. I live in an area where people think they have no say and believe they can't change things. I am a child of the 60s and such a depressed attitude about politics depresses me. I thought apathy had taken over the country but... NO! Here you all are...on the net being active, being heard, changing things, and just generally making waves and keeping the media on their toes. DU has given me hope in our political process again. There are loud radicals out there who see what is happening and know how to use emails, polls and petitions to get a liberal voice heard.
Thanks for being here!
P. S. After this rant, are you sorry you asked?....lol

I have been here since Nov 3rd 2004. I was so broken after the election (or stolen election) that I had given so much time and money to! Totally heart broken, refused to turn on the TV(still do not watch CNN, MSNBC and never FOX) unless DU recomends a program and felt totally isolated.
Then from the Kerry blog I found DU,lurked for awhile and joined. I do not post much but I'm here twice a day everyday.
Thanks DU...You Rock!!!!

8. I have been here for a while too although |
|
the number of my posts might not reflect that. I read much more than I post.
I come to DU for the news and the commentary and debate on the issues.
I am happy to be among people who tend to think like me on the issues. I am glad to know I am not alone.
So many smart people post here. Debate and discussions are free-wheeling. Many great ideas, humor, you name it.
Especially since the invasion of Iraq DU has been a comfort to me. It gives me hope for the future of our country.
