I THINK it does! California is basically Spanish, which is a Romance language, which means it is derived from Latin. From the name Califia. (I don't exactly remember her lineage.)
I studied Latin in hs, and there I loved it. But when I went off to college, and became a French major, I was REQUIRED to study it. Then I hated it, and barely passed. Oh well. sigh... I love French...
