It's official: THE FUNK BROTHERS are musical gods!
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 04:00 AM by NightTrain
I'm listening to Motown's 2004 anthology on the Funk Brothers, that label's legendary session musicians. It consists of the original instrumental backing tracks of such million-selling hits as "The Way You Do The Things You Do," "Too Many Fish in the Sea," "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," "Come See About Me," "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," "What's Going On," and "Papa Was A Rolling Stone." Without all that amazing vocal talent to distract the listener, it becomes glaringly obvious that what made Motown consistently great for so many years was THE MUSICIANS, baby!

Marv Tarplin, Earl Van Dyke, James Jamerson, Benny Benjamin, Johnny Griffith, Jack Ashford, and Bob Babbitt may not be household names, but they sure as fuck ought to be! :headbang::yourock:

1. Did they really publish the backing tracks?
Hello from Germany,

Did they really publish the backing tracks? I can't believe that. Is Jamerson't bass upfront?
Thanx a lot, if this is true!

Dirk

2. They're the original backing tracks, my man.
I dare even the whitest among us to listen to those tracks without moving some part of their body.

Suffice it to say, I give THE FUNK BROTHERS COLLECTION my highest recommendation!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

3. Thanx a lot...
It's the whole Funk Brother thing, but when I did read your post, I only expect the surviving members to publish some stuff... I still had the tour and the film in mind. Great, great, great... But being a Bass-addict somehow, my first thought is always: Jamerson, Jamerson, Jamerson.

I buy it tomorrow,
Dirk
