Has anyone else's Mozilla (Firefox) decided recently
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 10:06 PM by dolo amber
that maybe pop-ups aren't so bad after all? :grr:

Settings are all the same, virus/spyware scans say everything is clean as a whistle, and all upgrades are installed. What am I missing here?

2. The pop-up miesters have broken the Mozilla code.
I think there may be updates but I haven't checked yet. Havocdad updated his Firefox browers.

15. Yep, it stopped everything, including our computer.
Been there, used that, it was not a pretty experience. There will be NO repeat. Nah, I'll just mosey over to Mozilla and get the updates. But not tonight. Actually, I haven't had the pop-ups show yet. Expecting them anytime.

21. I have it on three computers and have never had a second's
...problems. And I've had it for YEARS, I get the updates as needed. It works like a champ for me.

I guess everyone's mileage varies depending on software used. But it does everything I could hope for. Unfortunate that it didn't work for you.

5. I updated mine because the same thing was happening.
So far it works, but things are a little slower. Also, there's a little thing that says "Adblock" on most pages and in the bottom right corner of my screen.

7. Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox haven't changed
it's just that the scum who think annoying pop-up/under ads make people want to buy their crap are figuring out how to beat the pop-up blocking mechanisms.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=229175&highlight=popups

Try using the Adblock extension. I've had one or two websites get around the combination of Firefox's built-in pop-up blocking and Adblock, but just Adblocking the JS scripts takes care of it.

You could also surf the web with Javascript turned off. Very few websites require it or need it and even GMail now has a pure HTML version.

13. Well...
Fastclick broke Firefox's pop-up/under blocking first and that was one of the reasons for the 1.01 release. Of course, it wasn't long before Fastclick "shared" (for a fee, of course) their discovery with the other knuckle-dragging low-lifes so now quite a few people are having the problem.

BTW: I really wanted to include this link in my first post but didn't find it right off. This thread gives some very practical solutions for not having to deal with the problem in the first place.

8. I've always had a couple popups sneak by once in awhile.
I haven't noticed any increase in that, myself.

Maybe try Avant? Someone on DU (arwalden?) said he was very satisfied with that browser and its popup protection.

17. I'll just scrape the mold off for you.
Some roasted red peppers and focaccia as well, perhaps?

And sparkling white grape juice?

We could have a pic-a-nic right here in the foxhole.

19. Couple of things:
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 10:33 PM by Penguin31
1)Make sure you're running Firefox 1.0.1 They updated the software recently. Go to tools -->Options-->Advanced...Scroll Down to Software Update, Click the Button.

2)Next, for those of you who see the little text that says Adblock but have NO clue what that is: When you see any banner ad on the internet, you can right-click it, select the option that says "AdBlock ". You'll then see a popup dialog box. You can just click OK and block that specific banner for good, OR you can replace the various parts of the line with *'s, which will block any ads feauting anything...well, here's an example:

One of my ad filters says: http://adserver.*.*/*
That means that ANY site which displays ads with that particular location will have it's ads blocked. http://adserver.ad.ad/ad, http://adserver.bingo.com/stuff ....And on and on: All blocked.

Make any sense?
