Anyone have any experience with bit torrent (the software)?
I am ambivalent about downloading it to my machine, but I can get some episodes of American Dreams that I missed last season (before I became a fan of the show, which is the best on television). Once the 2nd season comes out on DVD, I'll buy it without hesistation, just as I did the First, so I don't think I'd be doing anything wrong.

Does it load you up with spyware? Are there legal issues to worry about? Is it overly complicated?

1. I am pretty familiar
First of all there is no spy ware associated with the program. It is also very easy to use, you just have to find a place to download the torrent from. As to the legal issues it has the same as any other program, but it is much harder for people to track who downloaded what from whom.

6. I beg to disagree
you are not obtaining the whole thing from any one person, that is the whole point of the program.

2. There are plenty of places to find info on torrents
However, due to all of the legal issues pending I don't think DU is one of the places to start a conversation on this matter.

Torrent sites abound and for good reason...this P2P file exchange technology is extremely popular.

Good luck!

http://azureus.sourceforge.net I've found it to be pretty user friendly and you can direct it to open and start downloading torrents automatically. Of course I only download un-copyrighted material

on edit:
That is the torrent software I use, the sites are a different matter entirely...

4. No spyware...
but you DO need a Bittorrent client; Azureus is good (http://azureus.sourceforge.net ). There ARE legal issues, as with downloading ANY copyrighted material; however, the MPAA/RIAA have mostly restricted their efforts to shutting down torrent tracking sites, rather than going after users.
