BREAKING-Martha Stewart Back at Work, Thanks Staff
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/martha_stewart

NEW YORK - A beaming Martha Stewart (news - web sites) returned to work on Monday, blowing a kiss and waving as she arrived to speak to cheering employees.

After five months in prison and a weekend spent more comfortably at her 153-acre suburban estate, Stewart spoke to staff at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. in Manhattan, as members of the media looked on.

"All of you are my heroes," Stewart told the crowd.

Stewart, 63, said she had had "the tremendous privilege" of meeting a cross-section of people in prison and "learned a great deal about our country."

Before all this I could really care less about her... not thinking bad or good of her just not thinking much of her. But now I really respect her.

17. FYI-$45,673
Before you leave you really should learn at least that fact

The Commission alleges that, during the morning of Dec. 27, 2001, Bacanovic instructed his assistant, Douglas Faneuil, to tell Stewart that Waksal and his daughter were selling all the ImClone stock held in their Merrill Lynch accounts. During a subsequent telephone call, Faneuil conveyed that information to Stewart, who promptly instructed Faneuil to sell all 3,928 shares of her ImClone stock. The next day, Dec. 28, 2001, ImClone announced that the FDA had decided not to accept ImClone's Erbitux application for filing. By the close of the next trading day, Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, the price of ImClone stock dropped 16% to $46 per share. By selling when she did, Stewart avoided losses of $45,673.

6. I have one question. Do normal people get to go to work
while on house arrest? Or is that just a luxury for celeb jailbirds?

29. Martha has gotten no special treatment whatsoever, except....
that she was able to leave just after midnight when most people are released around 8am. That's because most people don't have media and paparrazi waiting at their homes to greet them.

why is is that we've got thousands of people stuck in the justice system going in and out with no help or hope and this rich bitch gets to come out and make even more money and be even more popular?

When people say "God bless America," I'm always confused--an America? or the America?

14. Sorry. The government's case against Stewart was a sham in the first place
While the thousands of people stuck in the justice system is a miscarriage of justice, that isn't Martha Stewart's fault. In my opinion, it is far worse that Michael Milken was convicted, pardoned and then got right back to work on manufacturing the California deregulation sham.

18. Being rich, even being a "bitch" isn't illegal.
Nor is being popular.

I understand what you're saying, but I think in this case she hasn't gotten a lot of special treatment because of her celebrity status.

19. Big differences between Stewart and the thousands in the justice system
Before "lying" about a stock trade that the government isn't even sure is illegal....she....

was a model
put herself through college
became a stock broker...
settled into family life and then started a catering business...
then she started the "home life" business she has today...

She was successful on her merits not based on a crime she committed.

28. Why is she a bitch?
She's worked her whole life for what she has and she happens to have become famous in the process...people are interested in what she's doing. People do not happen to be as interested in what Joe Schmoe the Crack Dealer is doing after the end of his sentence.

I love it reading the rantings of woman-hating democrats. It puts things in perspective.

34. Hey - don't read too much into his post.
He isn't a woman hater, not by any stretch. Search for his other posts - he is normally a very considerate DU-er. We all have our hot-button issues, right? This happens to be his. We can disagree with him, but I don't think it's fair to label him.

24. Yep
Hoepfully one of these links will work
http://www.paulsjusticepage.com/cjethics/5-penology/mumia.htm

As the political system is corrupt and subordinate to the interest of big corporations rather than the interest of people, so the justice system tends to be corrupt in defending this system against the innocence of common people. In this regard it is worth pondering the profound meaning of this statement by justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court:
"Mere factual innocence is no reason not to carry out a death sentence properly reached."
