This is the first cat picture I've ever posted on DU:

That's me and my wife, right after we gave our cat Steve a bath (Steve was a girl cat, by the way). This was may 2002.

Steve was the best cat ever. She could be picked up and placed anywhere and be comfortable. She also used to sleep with her paws wrapped around my head like a pair of headphones. Sometimes I woke up at around 5 in the morning with her face an inch away from mine and her eyes wide open, purring and staring at me.

We had her put to sleep later that year because she had kitty cancer. A very sad day.

Okay, so THERE IT IS. My entry into the world of DU catdom. Enjoy.

1. Brave man
giving a cat a bath and all that. Didn't you know they clean themselves? :P

Sorry you lost her to cancer. She sounded like a sweet kitty.

3. Well, being a white cat.....
It was easy to notice that she was not always, uh, overly hygenic in the buttular region.

So the baths were often necessary for the sake of our stomachs.

5. Yeah, the two cats we have now are dark-haired.
Some things you can go your whole life without noticing.

7. What a nice looking cat
Poor thing has a wounded ear though.

My cat wakes me up, purring and lying next to my head. She often tries to groom my hair

11. Steve used to sleep with her butt on my head.
In retrospect, it was endearing.

9. Pretty calm for a just-bathed cat. She was lovely. So sorry you had
to lose her, but if she was suffering it was an act of love.

10. Her previous owner (my mother in law)....
was/is a total skank who refused to let this super-friendly cute white cat into her home (because of imagined allergies), so she kept her outside in the pounding Alabama sunlight and fed her out there.

Steve got sunburn on her ears (this is a common problem for white cats who live outdoors), which turned into ugly, scabby, cancerous scars which didn't heal (you can see it in that pic), and we had her ears removed too late after the cancer had spread to the rest of her body. So in her final months, she was indeed in a lot of pain. We did the merciful thing and had her put to sleep.

We loved her a lot.

12. She was a beauty
I lost a kitty last year who had skin cancer too. He died of kidney failure, but had battled skin cancer a few years earlier. It started out as a red scab on his white leg. He lost his leg because it was so aggressive. The vet said if that if type of cancer is found on any part of the body that isn't the legs or tail, nothing can save the animal. Even if you had had her ears removed earlier, I doubt if it would have made a difference. I'm so sorry that you lost her.:-(

Was she a Turkish Angora? They are usually white, delicately built, very loving and intelligent, and are super soft with medium length fur.

15. Not sure what breed she was.
People would ask what kind of cat she was and we'd say "nice."

17. We called a vet to make a house call....
and the vet gave her the shot while she lay in my wife's arms and then Steve left this world.

It was hard to go to work that day....
