My dog has a limp
We think it may be something in his paw, or maybe an infection. We're gonna take him to the vet by the end of this week.

3. Is it sudden?
Does it look like there is something in his paw? If not, it could be something else.

Our dog had a bone chip in his front right leg that had to be removed. It was something congenital - and many vets had missed it as it didn't show up on x-rays.

Then a year later he torn both of his rear anterior cruciate ligaments. Happened after a dog park accident - he fell in a funny direction and that did it.

It could be a joint or soft-tissue injury as well.

6. My dog came in with a limp
she tore her knee muscles. At her age and size, the doctors wouldn't do anything. So, now I pick her up to put her on the bed and couch. She still runs around. If I take her for a walk, she can only walk a half block, I carry her home. But, I still love her.

5. That happened to our dog and we found that someone had put...
...a rubber band around her foot. It was hidden by her fur and, by the time we found it, her leg was a mess. I don't know how long it was there but she didn't even start limping or showing any signs of pain until it was really bad.

8. Dogs will sometiems limp when they are not
feeling well in general. If they are feeling weak or sick they will sometimes favor one foot. My dog used to do this and it had nothing to to with his foot. It was just when he didn't feel good. But its a good idea to take him to the vet. Hope he is okay and feels better soon!

9. Details. Breed, age, size.
Crucial stuff here. Could be a simple muscle ailment, could be much worse.

If he's not painful, I'd wait a day or two. Otherwise, off to the vet with ya.

10. My dog limped before her knee went out
She had a luxating patilla, which means the knee cap doesn't stay in the knee grove. Feel her knee cap, you can tell if it's out of joint. She had two surgeries ($800 each) and it's still only about 80%.

11. my dog Aja has to undergo acl surgery tomorrow
12 months ago it was the other back leg

when she recovers i intend to introduce her as the bionic dog.

a week at the veterinary surgeon, then 3 weeks at the regular vet because i can't bring her home to the other 5 dogs and expect her to be sedate.

if x-rays don't indicate a break, then only by cutting the leg open can it be determined for sure if it is the acl, but experience leads me to believe its a ligament rupture.
