My optometrist would not SHUT UP

Nice enough guy, and I enjoyed his banter for awhile...

Until he mentioned that people need to speak English now that they're here, and that minorities are more successful when they learn to "speak white".

I was utterly dumbfounded. Ever want to get the hell out of somewhere so badly, and couldn't?

Then he goes on to mention that he's an active Republican, and that his good friend is a particularly scummy local state legislator. Side note: this legislator gained national noteriety when he stated that the Abu Gharib torture was little more than frat house hazing.

I hate getting blindsided with casual bigotry. It's like getting punched in the gut, out of the blue.

I've been to this optician for years, and they use different optometrists every day of the week...I just won't be able to go back again on a Thursday night, I guess.

I was the only patient at that hour, and he left while I was getting fitted for my contacts...hope he saw my Kerry bumper sticker as he left.

the lady that cuts my hair started talking about some guy who was "pretty nice, but he's a liberal, you know..."

12. I haven't cut my hair in almost two years because

of a hair dresser like that. She is by far the best I've ever gone to but when she started to talk about Muslims...I realized I could no longer give her any of my money. When I politely countered her arguments (normally I wouldn't be so polite but she did have scissors to my head) she changed the topic to Latin men and how American women are spoiled.
