Anyone here a patent agent? Or in patent law?

After years of being a postdoc (= temporary training stage after grad school) I am beginning to wake up and ask why would I want to spend the rest of my life in academia for low pay. Have science degree from good grad school.

I understand that there is such a thing as patent agents, = folks who write and submit patents. IDoes anyone know anything about patent law? Thanks for any information about how to get into the field, what the work is like, etc.

1. Three things

First, patent is one of the areas of law for which an attorney must be specially licensed.

Second, yes, your knowledge can be useful for preparing patent documents.

Third, somebody has to invent the thing that you might diagram and explain for the purposes of patenting.

2. Here's a site by two women who invented some kind of

posterboard with very faint lines. They went through all kinds of crap in getting their idea patented so they set up a site for people to make it easier. If you email them they will get back to you, so you might want to email them with your question. Maybe they can help. :-)
