Poll question: What's your favorite personal body part/feature?
Nothing dirty going on here! :)

I was just having this conversation with a gaggle of my friends, and we asked each other to choose something about our physical appearance that we actually think is very lovely. We're all a bunch of gals, so we sometimes have the tendency to nitpick at our appearances, but it was actually nice to comment, and be commented on, our favorite body part.

Soooooooooo.... since everyone needs a bit of validation, even lounge lizards, I'd like to know what's your personal favorite on yourself.
If you've got a pic, please share. :)

I'll start. My favorite feature has always been my eyes.

Or is that the fabulous hair of some random guy you found off the internet? :P

If it's your 'do... very nice. If not, I was fooled for the briefest of moments. :)

18. Good question...
I'm happy to oblige :)

None of us chose our stomachs... but I chalk that up to the fact that none of us have a six-pack, and we're always worried about the jiggle effect around our tummies.

The favorite answer among the six gals sitting at the table was our eyes. Three of us really liked our eyes. One friend loves her arms, and she should - they are so chisled they put Arnold to shame. Errr... not really, but they are amazingly defined. One gal loved her lips, and she does have a really cute cupie-doll smile. Finally, one gal just loved her ass. She's got back, and she couldn't be happier.

So there ya go... that's what six gals sitting around a table think about themselves. :)

I was at the Whole Foods the other day, and the Beauty Products gal recommended this stuff by a company named Giovanni, so the next time I am in there I might try that. I need to weigh it down slightly, but not so much as to overburden the fine strands. sigh.......
Thanks for the suggestion tho!

each Whole Foods has a slightly different vibe. I prefer the Lakeview location for the most part, tho the Evanston one can be very nice (tho a bit of a trek for me). Parking at the Lincoln Park location is nightmarish, so I try to avoid it at all costs.

Are you familiar with Stanley's? Excellent prices for fruits and veggies, and a fair organic selection.

Yeah..... it's a little bit sad. :)

But, to backtrack a bit, I love the North side. I didn't want to move to Hyde Park because it's actually kind of isolated out that way. I don't mind the commute. The el makes it fairly rapid.

If I am imagining where you live correctly. I used to have a number of friends living out that way, but we've lost touch over the years. I was a Southsider as well many years back.

Hyde Park is a pretty cool neighborhood, although there was just a homicide by the school recently, so some of the students were a bit shaken up. Wasn't anything to worry about really - twas a close range targeted gang attack.

26. Thanks.
You see, the thing is, I sometimes get the feeling from a few other women around here that somehow, because I have posted my picture or look a certain way, that I'm somehow not a feminist or thought of as more shallow somehow. I may be wrong, but it's just a little gut feeling I've gotten at times. The thing of it is that when I was younger, in my teens, anytime I dressed in a way that at all showed my form, my mother would go on and on about how I "looked slutty" (mainly just because of how I'm naturally built). Add to that marrying young to a man who'd get so jealous and insecure that if anyone flirted with me or looked at me, he'd yell at me for it when we got home. I spent years feeling self-conscious and hiding my form (lived in sweatshirts and sweatpants for most of my 20's), repressing huge parts of my sexuality, etc. For me, it's a level of empowerment within myself to be able to be comfortable expressing that side of myself and it's taken a lot of self-work to get there.

It's ok with me. I just don't like it when the media starts going into how "fat" someone is when she's within a healthy weight range. It's silly. I think everyone should just try to be their healthiest selves and for some of us, it's different than others.

Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 10:03 AM by GTRMAN
Even though I work a "desk job" now, I still have the callouses and scars from the years of hard physical work I did before I wound up here. My hands look just like my Father's and Greandfather's hands, so I guess they will always remind me of them the rest of my life.

That is a very touching reminder of the bonds of family. It is always amazing when we stop to think of the ways we are reminded of our loved ones. My Nana always had the softest skin - I can't explain it. It was like a very fine silk. My mother's skin is now starting to feel like that, and I am at once reminded of my Nana. I look forward to the day my skin feels like that as well... it will feel like such a connection to those women.

My Dad's side of the family is from Texas and Mississippi. Mom's side of the family is from Pennsylvania. My Southern Baptist grandma on Dad's side was sometimes a little shocked at Nana's outbursts.

The funniest thing to witness sometimes were the political discussions. Heated arguments would sometimes break out. Funny thing is, they were all Democrats!

They're hazel and sort of cat-like.

Sort of a golden green with darker rims, and can vary from more greenish to more goldish.

When I tan a bit, my hair, eyes and skin are almost the same color.

38. Wow thanks!
I've never had "nicely-spaced eyes" as a compliment before!

I always hated them growing up. I wanted blue eyes, cuz all the fairy princesses had them. Mine always looked like the color of mud.

Then one day, I was working at the record store I used to work in, and a little old man was buying a cassette. He said, "Young lady are you wearing contacts?" And I said no. He said, "You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen!" I grew to love them right then.

I wish I could express to him, even years later, how much my self-love grew that day. I don't think he had any idea.

54. That is wonderful...
At the moment, I am working towards having the type of butt that a small fun ball could be bounced off... though my highest acheivement would be to have the quarter careening forth from my posterior. Thumbs up to you for all the hard work it takes to have a coin-repellent behind! :)

45. I say my hair, others say my eyes
My hair is thick and dark and (if I do say so myself) damn well looked after.

Lots of people have commented on my eyes, they stand out because they are light blue whereas my hair and face generally is quite dark. They are also very large.

Unfortunately no picture as they ALWAYS go majorly demon-red in photos.

The rest of me is totally ugly in the extreme - apart from my calves which aren't too bad as I walk a lot.

I've met a handful of people with the light eye/dark hair combo, and I am always dazzled. :)

Incidentally, my family spent some time in England and my father had some business activities in Milton-Keyes and Bedford. M-K is in Bucks, no?

121. Sort of
Milton Keynes used to be in Bucks but got removed from the purview of Bucks County Council recently to be an independent local authority (which makes sense); I'm at the other end of the county down near London. One point about removing M.K. is that Bucks now is entirely Conservative, all of the M.P.s, the County Council, and all of the District Councils.

The countryside near M.K. and Bedford is very beautiful, i.m.o., hope you enjoyed your time here.

46. Hair.
For 30+ years I've refused to do the conventional thing and have it cut short and "stylish." I like it long, long, long, to the point where I cringe every time the split ends are trimmed off (which is necessary about once a year or so to keep it in good shape). Right now it's to my waist, but I'd like it longer still. I'm not going to cut it short and curly and dye it blue when I'm an old lady, either. ;)

Fingernails would be my second-favorite feature, in the summer when there's enough moisture in the air for them to grow long. Right now they're pathetic at a quarter of an inch. Occasionally I'll have dreams about breaking a fingernail, which I interpret as feeling I've lost one of my few good physical features, losing my female power somehow. How's that for superficial? :)

I only WISH that I could grow my hair that long. Mine is so fine that I can't seem to get any good length to it. I tried growing it for four years once, and the progress was very minimal. So, I keep my locks pretty short. Your 'do sounds simply lovely tho.

When I was in high school, a guy told me I had muscle-y legs like a soccer player. I think he meant it as a complement, but in my adolescence, I took it as an insult. I've been paranoid of them ever since. Though I really do have a pretty mean kick. Hurray for your nice legs! :)

64. My hair and, I guess, my view from the rear.
I'll be 42 this year, but I am always noticing the funniest thing... young guys, and I mean young and charming, are always staring at me from behind. I'll feel their eyes and turn around and catch them. That, or a guy will walk past me from behind and then turn around to see what I look like in front. My husband even comments on this. When I was in my twenties I was walking with my boyfriend arm in arm when another fellow passed us from behind. He turned around, caught my boyfriend's eye, and gave him the thumbs up sign. At the time it was very flattering and I guess it must still be, since I'm relating it here! :7

I have really great hair. And I have the greatest shnozz of all time. My nose is BIG and bony and projects so far out it's practically in another zip code. This has been of great benefit to me. Art school boys and girls always want to sketch it which leads to dinner and all those nice squishy things that happen after dinner.

And by the way, you do have very beautiful eyes.
