I'd Like to Apologize....

...to anyone who was offended by anything I posted this morning. There are a few subjects that I am very passionate about, and I know that I tend to go overboard when those subjects are discussed.

Sorry!! I'll try to do a better job of controlling my passion.

15. I only read the posts and am now just responding-remember

that oh-so-incendiary thread on GD- I Am Leaving DU-Goodby to all friends and Vets! Vetwife was furious at threads she felt were attacking soldiers, but she misunderstood, and for the life of her would not accept people's explanations and sentiments. The thread grew, and the outcome was that she looked like a person who just wanted attention.

It was her lack of understanding and her inability to respond to other people as though she'd listened to them that frustrated people. If you felt like people were attacking you, they were probably just voicing their frustration at so swiftly being dismissed.

I agree very much with tigereye here. And I also appreciate when someone's passionate about an issue, as you are. But what this means from now on is that an issue, "fat" and shows relating to that issue, "fat" are forever banned in the lounge. Discussion can become heated here, but this is a place of safety for a lot of people to talk about issues in general. I just don't want to walk on eggshells here, is what I'm saying.

At least as I see it. An entire group of people were being held up for public ridicule. And a lot of plus-sized people agree with my position.

Fat people seem to be that last group that it's "OK" to make fun of. And as a larger American who has preferred fuller-figured girls and women all my life, this is a battle I've been fighting for years. It's just that yesterday morning, I crossed over the line from advocacy to attack. For which I'm sorry.

And I'm also sorry you feel you now have to walk on eggshells. But since a few people were posting some nasty stuff in some of those threads, I can see why Skinner had no choice than to act in the way he did. Perhaps it will make a few people out there rethink their perceptions of fat people.
