My SO did a heroic thing today!! I am so proud of her. |
|
On her way to work, she noticed smoke coming from an area close to a house. We live in the country so outside burning is normal...she turned back and double checked to see if it was controlled outside burning or the house itself. It was the house. She called the fire department, flagged down a couple of other cars. They jumped the fence and went to the house to make sure no human was there. Then thay got all the outside dogs away from the house, broke a window on the car so they could move the car away from the burning house. There was an inside dog they couldn't save. It took the fire department over 20 minutes to travel less than 5 miles.
The owners are there now, and as she was getting ready to leave the scene to go on to work, she went over to them and expressed her sorrow at the loss of their house and their inside dog. The couple hugged her and thanked her for her efforts.
I am so proud of her for her bravery. In the country almost all homes have a propane tank attached to them which is a pretty scary prospect when a fire is going. Her first concern was to save anyone or any animal she could.
Do I have a great lady or what??? 18 years together this year. I am so lucky.

Incredibly brave!! Good for her!
My mom ran into a burning apartment building when I was a little kid. She knocked on all of the doors, yelling at people to get out. She tore up the skin on her knuckles. The firemen said she was incredibly brave but dumb to do that. But she likely saved some lives, although one woman did die (she had been smoking in bed in her basement apartment).
I was in 3rd grade - I don't think I'll ever forget that night.

That's great! My hub and I have been married 18 years too, btw! I think you are really lucky (and me too.) Take this woman out to dinner by all means, she deserves it. Nice story, thanks for sharing.

You must be very proud.
:toast:
The response time of the fire dept. was unacceptable and should be an issue. Maybe, with a more reasonable response time, the inside dog and possibly the house too could have been saved!
