Litter box psychosis
So we have five cats, and we have five litter boxes, which we clean once daily. The s.o. and I take turns, but regardless of who does the work, one of the cats (Plato) waits for the first box to be raked out, then leaves a nice smelly deposit and bolts. Anyone else have a cat who does that? Just curious. :)

1. My cats like to watch me clean it, and one loves to
jump in while I'm cleaning. Sometimes he will wait until I'm done and "initiate" it.

5 cats...impressive. I have three and 2 boxes that I clean 2 x a day or more if it's smelly. We call it "room service."

3. We call that the "rushing gushing waterfall" syndrome
You hear running water and have to pee, cats hear litter scraping and have to pee. Or poop.

5. He's usually already in there when we go in to clean
And it's always a poo. I think he saves it up for that special daily occasion around 4pm :D

This is the guy:

4. Yes, the king (Reno) leaves a little stinkbomb
whenever the litterbox is cleaned. He is the alpha male and has to mark it first!

10. my kitty is a lady
but she does the same thing. I think she wants to make sure I understand it is her potty, as if I wanted to start using it myself.

7. young cats like to play in the litter too. I have a couple that
like to dive in the second I am finished cleaning it.

strange. I think it really is the marking territory thing.

Of course they like to crowd into the bathroom with me every morning, when I am captive human

8. My Maine Coon does the same thing
She sits there and watches me strain the litter box, and then jumps in and initiates it.

9. my cat always uses it right after the daily scooping
she hears the sound of the litter, wakes up and runs to me so she can watch the human play with her poop, then she uses it.

I asked my mother about this strange behavior, and she said her cat uses the pan right after it is cleaned too.
