Coppola wine son, nothing else in the world smells like that...
Bought a bottle of the highly touted Coppola Claret which scored a 29 out of 30 in a blind tasting recently. Can a wine really be that good? A 29?

I was at my local wine store checking out the selection. The owner's son, Fredo, approached me, "Can I help you find something?"

I asked "is this stuff really as good as they say?"

"I don't see how it could be," answered Fredo.

The owner appeared suddenly, slapped the side of Fredo's head and said "Don't ever take sides against the Coppola family!"

I bought it, took it home.

While opening and pouring it, I get ear wormed loudly by Vagner's Ride of the Valkyrie. The wine is dark and opaque (a good sign).

As I lift the glass for a sniff, Robert Duvall's voice is in my head: "you smell that? you smell that?"

But it didn't smell like napalm or victory. It smelled like vanilla and sweet spice with a hint of oak. A taste...

Wow!
Silky velvet, dense fruit then a chocolatey finish. Outrageous layered elegance.

On a Coppola scale from Godfather 3 (the worst) to Godfather 2 (best), I give it a Godfather 2. Seriously, about the best tasting beverage I have ever put it in my mouth.

I'll check it out next time I'm in the store if they have it here.

5. I think it is a pretty good value, we would buy
it occasionaly before we were able to get free sample bottles. Not bad at all.

7. I designed the first label for his vineyard back in 1982...
It wasn't that great. I don't think he used it.

But I DID it.

And his wines are FANTASTIC.

9. They have some fantastic (and expensive) Cabernets, too...
I visited the winery back in October 2002, and wound up taking home a case, including three bottles of their $50 Reserve. They said it should continue to improve for fifteen years...and I may let at least one wait for about that long.

Funny moment on the tour: clueless tourist looking over FFC's memorabilia collection, exclaiming "Man, I had no idea Coppola made The Godfather..."

:eyes:
