Why do I keep getting spooky phantom emails?

I keep getting emails that list the sender as <none> and have no subject line or message body. :WTF: are these phantom emails? Where do they come from? Someone help me solve my inboX-file!

1. Pre-spam

Basically sending out millions and millions and millions of emails to every randomly-calculated email address. The ones that aren't returned undeliverable are likely valid email addresses, and can be sold to advertisers/spammers. Not much you can do, since there is no email address or anything to block.
