"Shaolin Soccer" was a massive hit all over Asia in 2001. it's just now been released in the US, but Miramax failed to promote it. It's an awesome flick.

Not to take anything away from the Brazilians, who are terrific in their own right.

If you go to this Lycos directory, the last link is to a Football Capoeira training method page which Lycos says was featured in a magazine in 2000. So the linking of martial arts and footy in South America predates the release of Shaolin Soccer.
