1. One of my favorite lines ever! |
|
Sometimes I'll randomly say it at my work and everyone is always like...WTF?
If I ever declare my intention to leave DU, I'll be sure to use it.
:)

LOL...I use random quotes from books and movies all the time and people are like..."WHAT?"
I also used that old standby, "All your base are belong to us." No one knew the reference. It must be for the Internet-addicted only.
My favorite Adams line: "The huge ships hung in the air in much the same way bricks don't." Best. Metaphor. Ever. :D

5. One day I decided to give a brief synopsis of the Hitchhiker story |
|
to my co-workers.
It was priceless!
They think I'm funny strange...but harmless...and they just kind of sat there looking at me and I KNOW they are thinking, "No wonder she's so strange"
But my goofiness breaks up their day so they tolerate me. :)

7. Well, there's always... |
|
Stones, then rocks, then boulders, pranced past him like clumsy puppies, only much bigger, much, much harder and heavier, and almost infinitely more likely to kill you if they fell on you.
Of course, that's a simile, so no contradiction of your best metaphor claim.

9. Great line...but harder to memorize to toss out during strategic... |
|
...moments in life. :)
Of course, it's hard to find a use for the "huge ships" metaphor, anyway. I use the number "42" a lot. When someone asks me something and I don't know the answer, I usually say, "42." That covers everything, doesn't it?
I also use the phrases "don't panic" and "life, the universe and everything" quite often.
I am SO pissed off Douglas Adams died. He died way too young. He was thinking of writing another book for the Hitchhiker's "trilogy." When he was brilliant, he was very, very brilliant.
Soon I must depart to sleep on my friend, Zem.
See you all soon.

6. 'Hitchhiker's Guide' came up in minister's eulogy at my friend's funeral |
|
Apparently, my friend was into scifi, and the minister started mentioning scifi. He mentioned a book that gave the answer to a big question, and it said the answer was 42. I quietly said, "what is the secret of the universe?" and my friends sitting near me flipped out when the minister got to the answer in his talk. I don't think anyone else in the room knew what the reference was. :-)
