could you please just wait a couple minutes to see if the post ppears before you hit post again? by hitting post over and over, you are only making things worse.

2. Hitting refresh or reload is the culprit

If you hit refresh after hitting post, multiple clones will appear. If you want to see if your post made it through, open a new window and look for it there. Chances are it did, unless you got a "could not connect" message immediately after hitting post.

3. I think it's more than just clicking the post button more than once

I made a post on a thread which showed up as a double post and I'll swear on a stack of Bibles I only clicked once on the post button, but it still showed up as a double post. Could be a bug in the new software. (And I didn't do a refresh either)

4. if its too noisy, talk more softly

I attended a buddhist meditation retreat 20 years ago, where we were only supposed to talk at dinner. Dinner was in a big beer tent kind of thing, and it could get really noisy.

One evening somebody made the suggestion "If it gets too noisy to hear the person across the table from you, try talking more softly."

If the system is bogging down, DON'T keep posting things. It not only slows things down, it probably makes it harder on the moderators.

5. My recommended procedure for handling the DB and Server errors

If you get an error message,

1. Hit the Back button on your browser (on IE you can hit the Backspace key for the same result),

2. Wait a few seconds,

3. Click the button or link again.

I haven't done a duplicate post yet AFAIK.

6. when I post today

the browser sometimes times out while trying to connect to the DU server. But the post does go through nonetheless. So if you experience this don't click "Post Message" again before double checking if it worked. Maybe try using using another browser window to post and then check if it worked in the original window (that's what I do).

I had been critical of others too, until it happened to me and I realized that it is a software glitch beyond my, your, and other posters' control.

C'mon, don't be so hard on people. You will be really embarassed if it happens to you, now that you've made a stink about it.

It happened to me, and I had only hit the button ONCE.
