Poll question: Who cuts yer hair? |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 08:04 PM by undisclosedlocation
Inspired, if that's the word, by these idiot radio spots running on sports radio for Sports Clips, a macho stud hair styling salon with TVs running sports wall-to-wall apparently. Probably just me but that sounds like about ten times more testosterone than I need in my life. Alice just gives me a Suzanne Vega haircut (she calls it a Little Dutch Boy) every three months or so. I look like an idiot, but it makes her happy, so that's nice.

12. So what if I'm a guy who like sports and needs a haircut? |
|
Sports Clips does a decent job on my hair (which is pretty simple to cut) for a decent price. Most barber shops I've ever been to have had sports on anyway.
And before I get the "support local businesses" stuff, Sports Clips is a franchise. These ARE local businesses.

14. I'm sure they're great; I just hate the ads |
|
which doesn't exactly make them special as I hate nearly all ads. (Can anybody's voice really be that deep?) I'd probably go there if Alice weren't so proprietary about my hair.

13. I Go to a "Beauty College" in Downtown Pueblo |
|
Don't let the name fool you - they do men, women, and kids. Seven bucks for a haircut, and every one is checked and (if necessary) corrected by an instructor.
I've been going there for years, and I get much better hairduts than places like Supercuts or Great Clips. For half the price.

19. Certification process, I think, but from the layman's point of view |
|
the sign out front.
Traditionally, barbers cut men's hair and stylists cut women's hair. That got all shot to hell in the '70s with the unisex movement. To put it most simply, if they wash your hair first, they're stylists. If they just spritz a little water on it, they're barbers.

24. Well, I'll describe the place I go to |
|
I go to a place that only cuts men's hair. The staff is mostly female, but there are a couple male stylists/barbers.
While cutting they spritz your hair, but offer a shampoo after the actual cut.

25. I think those are indeed barber/stylists. If you're just burning to vote |
|
one way another in the poll, though, I'd go with stylist.

I've been growing it out lately so I haven't been getting it cut. If I get it trimmed up, a barber. (When I used to have long hair I trimmed it myself, but I finally learned my lesson.) I've never paid more than twelve bucks for a haircut, though. Some may find it unbelievable, but the best hair-cutting place I've found is actually at the local truck-stop! But the woman I liked the most disappeared a few months ago and since I haven't been back for a while I'm not sure what became of her.

is how the simple act of cutting hair can be so loving and intimate...just by taking care of one another. :hi:

Didn't mean to imply that Alice does a bad job on my hair or that it's an unpleasant experience; I just don't like myself in long hair.
