I'm looking for tips on taking what a schizophrenic says in context.

When they say one day that they wish some indisputably cruel and evil person was still alive, and then they say another day that they wish someone who's biggest crime was starving herself into a coma were summarily executed, and I call them on it, who's the whackjob? Their best comeback was "people like to take me out of context" :eyes:

I posit that they're it's hard to take schizophrenics IN a proper context. Can someone give me some tips on good ways to do so?

5. Schizophrenics are usually extremely intelligent

but often delusional. When they are off their medications things can get quite dicey. I once had a patient who, when taken off his medication, would begin to talk about murderous acts in graphic detail. While on the medication he was a perfectly gentle man and very enjoyable to talk with.

Point out inconsistencies with humour - compare and contrast with dry wit and humour... or just take it in stride and be quietly (and not interactively) amused? :shrug:
