Favorite short-lived TV series?
I would say for me it was the 1975-76 mystery series "Ellery Queen" starring Jim Hutton (father of "Ordinary People star Timothy Hutton). I was just 11 when it came on, but I loved watching it and especially when the Queen character would issue his "challenge to the viewer" to see if we had gotten all the clues and could solve the case.

here is a link:

Oh yeah, I also liked "The Night Stalker" with Darren McGavin.

19. Maybe you and I were the only two regular viewers.
I had to watch anything with that medieval setting. Nigel Terry and Cherie Lunghi were also part of the appeal.

As for other short-lived TV series, I watched Nothing Sacred (a victim of conservative lobbying), the excellent Homefront, and Davis Rules, which was a wonderful show before they destroyed it by changing networks, recasting, and switching to 90th-rate writing. It was fine when it featured Patricia Clarkson in a recurring role (the first season only, alas) and improvisation from Jonathan Winters.

3. Is 4 seasons short enough?
If so FUTURAMA period, end of story.

Probably too long a run, though. Too short in the grand scheme of things though. 10,000 seasons woulda still been too short.

Without a doubt. If you're not familiar, it was a short-lived show circa 1976 that involved a newspaper reporter trying to locate his brother who had become a vampire. The reporter kept coming across other strange paranormal things. Very similar to the X-Files -- but the X-Files was inspired by Nightstalker (so I have read).

I'd love to see this come out on DVD.

on edit: added link. It aired one season, 1974-1975, and it starred Darren McGavin. And wouldn'tcha know it, the folks behind the X-Files are producing a new version.

before giving up on it. I'm a big Buffy/Angel fan, so I gotta admit I was disappointed. I think, though, that I regret not giving it more of a chance. Joss Wheddon rocks, and I'm sure he woulda done a good job had we tuned in.

Is the series worth picking up on DVD (dumb question, I know)

14. The Critic
ABC had the formula right. But summarily cancelled it, saying it was too gross-out. (this is the same network that saw "married w/children" and then created "Roseanne".

FOX bought the program and ruined it.

Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 09:06 PM by mcscajun
Most promising Sci-Fi show I'd seen in a few years. It ran on Showtime and then, Poof! Gone, with six unaired episodes denied to us...

Odyssey 5 premiered on Showtime on June 21, 2002. The series is about the crew of a space shuttle who see Earth destroyed while on a mission in space. They are given the chance using alien technology to return to Earth as it was five years earlier and change its history, hopefully to avoid the path that led to its destruction.
