The highest you've ever flown a kite?
And yes, I'm talking about THE KITE being high, NOT YOUSE!

When I was about eleven or so, I had a brand new paper kite I wanted to fly, but I only had a small ball of string. One of my neighbor friends saw me struggling with it, and he came over with a spool that contained half a mile of twine (according to the label on the spool). We ended up with that entire length standing straight up in the air-- the kite was invisible, and we were hoping a plane would fly by and snag it. That never happened, and it took over a half hour to bring the kite back to earth. It was a typical kid's summer day-- sunny, warm, and just about forever long. I still think of that kite and that day almost forty years later.

It was SO cool.

1. I got one almost that high.
I had a big field beside my house that I used to play in, so the kite had plenty of room to get started.
It was barely a speck and took forever to get down.
I remember it was a black paper one with a skull and crossbones on it.
That was fun!

It's the underground bunker where Cheney went and hid during 9/11.

From 1893 until 1933, the Weather Bureau maintained a system of stations from which kites were flown at regular hours when the winds permitted. The world's altitude record for a kite was claimed by the US Weather Bureau, with the ascent of a kite to 23,111 ft <7,044 meters> on 3 October 1907 at Mt. Weather. On 05 May 1910, the station on Mt. Weather launched a string of ten kites carrying meteorological instruments. The total area of this "train" of ten kites amounted to 683 square feet, and the uppermost kite rose to an altitude of 23,835 feet. In order to accomplish this feat, over 8-1/2 miles of thin wire were needed for the line

6. Nice article
FEMA is a lot nastier than most people realize-- when martial law is declared, they're the ones that will be in charge of enforcing the lockdown. They have a LOT of secret police powers.

I drove by the front gates of Mt. Weather a couple of weeks ago and the place is quite scary. Looks like an entrance to a missile silo, armed guards, warning signs. Somebody I know who lives near there said the road leading up to the place was backed up with Senators and Congressman in limos on 9/11.

5. Let's put it this way
I flew my kite so high, a saucer swooped down and a Grey handed me back my kite and shook his finger at me in a scolding fashion.

B-)
