BWI to be renamed (maybe) for Thurgood Marshall
The Maryland House of Representatives has passed the bill but the Senate is holding it up claiming the name change will hurt the airport's attempt to be a gateway to DC....

<snip>

Though the state House approved a bill to add Marshall's name to the airport, it has stalled in the Senate. Some members think the change would hurt Maryland's efforts to market the airport as a gateway to Washington as well as Baltimore.

"They didn't stop flying into Reagan National" when the airport serving the nations' capital was renamed to honor the former president, Burns said.

well actually i, personally, will never refer to it as Regan National.....but would be honored to arrive at Thurgood Marshall International Airport.....

1. I don't understand.
"Baltimore" Airport, if you're not familiar with the geography, doesn't sound like it would necessarily be anywhere NEAR D.C.

But "Thurgood Marshall" Airport, hey, that's a Supreme Court Justice, it must be near D.C.! Right?

Obviously the liberal-haters have to come up with SOME reason not to name something after one of our greatest justices.

2. BWI = Baltimore Washington International
it draws passengers from the DC area as well as the Baltimore area....

but i agree, the issue of their resistence to the name change certainly does not stem from a concern that people will not use the airport due to misunderstanding where it is. people still fly to dulles after all.....

4. Oh, I get it now.
They had to come up with SOME reason to oppose it. *sigh*
