Official Jerry Falwell regrets thread. |
|
It has deeply saddened us all to learn that Rev. Jerry Falwell was in critical condition today, and we only wish him the most painless and swift of passings,

And have had to hear the hate spewing from his disgusting mouth.

6. i regret the time he's spent on this earth making it a more dangerous |
|
and unwelcoming place for those among us who already have it too hard as it is in this intolerant nation. Don't let the door hit you where the good L**d split you

16. Imagine gloating over the prospect of people dying because of AIDS |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 05:58 PM by terrya
He was rubbing his hands with glee when the AIDS epidemic began...when only gay men were diagnosed with this horrible disease.
I've lost my share of friends to AIDS over the decades. I will never, ever forgive that motherfucker for his casual disregard towards gay people, for fostering hateful attitudes in society that makes teenaged gay and lesbian kids to commit suicide, to show a complete indifference to hate crimes against gay people. Falwell is no different than Fred Phelps. He's just more diplomatic ahout it.

5. For some odd reason, I felt a pain of sympathy for him. |
|
Not sure why, what given his biases and warped takes on religion and all...

19. Hey HypnoToad, "No man is an island...." |
|
"Therefore do not ask for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." I believe that this snippet of poetry speaks to why you felt a bit of sympathy for this man. We are ALL connected, I believe, as John Donne did and as he indicated in this poem.

7. I regret that I wasn't there for him, when he suffered his trauma |
|
so I could point and laugh at him and suggest that he's either an abortionist, lesbian, homosexual, or all of the popular forms of sin he listed after 9/11.
Just to see the look on his jowl-enhanced face.

14. He's not suffering enough, imo |
|
He should be in a ditch after rolling his SUV off a 500 foot cliff, upside down, strapped in, wondering when his last heart beat will be, and slowly coming to the realization that he is indeed a right-fucking-bastard, and even while upside down with a shattered spine and slowly stopping heart he got the easy way out.
Fuck him. Fuck all his followers.

12. The saddest aspect of Falwell's passing is that such |
|
a bigot could have risen so high on America's radar that his death could elicit both sorrow and joy on a national basis.
In a more perfect world, such an uniformed bigot would have long ago been consigned to the sidelines of decent society.
In a more perfect world, his passing would have been noted with not much more than a footnote in his local gazette, with even that notice inspiring not much beyond inquiries of "who?"
In a more perfect world, we wouldn't have a lifetime of well-documented Neanderthal thinking sitting on the RW side of the ledger acting as offset to the free expression of thoughts that do nothing to advance the higher calling of the liberal ethic.
It's a sad day indeed.

23. Jerry, in commemoration of your life's achievements I will be dedicating - |
|
my next bowel movement to your memory - and as much you did during your passage through our mortal realm, it will stink up the place pretty awful for a bit such that I shall, as your ashamed progenitor, deny my part in your creation if anyone shall ask, until you are flushed down to rot stinking in the earth.
Amen
