House takes on childhood obesity and FOX viewers miss the point completely |
|
On today's House, this little girl goes into the hospital for having had a heart attack. The girl has no friends and everyone teases her. She is so desperate to be thin, she runs laps every day at lunch and has been to several diet clinics. She finally resorted to taking diet pills. Throughout the whole episode, it is clear that you can't judge someone based on their looks without knowing the whole story.
And yet...on the FOX message board, they're having laughs over those damn fat kids and blaming the parents. NOt only that, they defend those bastard kids that teased the girl into almost killing herself with diet pills. It makes me SPITTING mad. No wonder so many little kids are bastards when their parents teach them it's ok to be mean to those that are different. A big thank you to DU parents who stress tolerance to their kids.

never prosper. No matter what they do. :( Take it from me, I used to be one. A lot of people are still ignorant.
On edit: I usually like "House" though. I didn't see tonight's show. I recorded it so I'll be sure to check it out soon.

unfortunately, we only prosper by excelling at something. either that, or also lifting weights, so we can beat up people who say shit. both of them worked for me

It's no easy ride for overweight people. But the upside: it makes you stronger as a person.

i can take a lot of shit now...though elementery school was hell. High school was alright, because I was pretty smart, and could insult right back at them, and usually win. "Fucking ignorant dipshit" beats "fatso" any day

15. Bastard kids made my life hell in school |
|
Then I lost a lot of weight and things got better. I wish I had had the guts to tell them to fuck off to their faces. But I mostly kept to myself.
The girl made me cry. I know what she went through.

9. Most "Big Boys" either become bullies or very shy and timid |
|
All societies treat those who are different by teasing them and calling them names. That's why the big or fat kids in schools are either bullies or timid. When a small kid is aggressive in a school they're labeled as "cute". When a big kid is aggressive they're labeled as a "bully:. John Madden said his secret into allowing his offensive lineman into becoming aggressors was by allowing them to tear apart a blocking dummy on the first day of school.

10. It doesn't help when being overweight |
|
is still one of the few things that people don't care if you make fun of or insult in the media. Name any other type of condition, race ethnicity and you have to be careful when you crack a joke if you are a professional comedian. Not so with being overweight.

Finally, somebody comes out and says this. You can mock people for being 600 pounds all day long. But god help you if you if you make fun of someone in a wheel chair.

13. I just call it like I see it |
|
Even when they are not making fun of them blatantly as a comedian would you will see many times blatant little jabs in films. Like the overweight person is usually the stupid one, or they or a slob or lazy or something along those lines.

14. congress & fox are both steeped... |
|
in the very sorts pissy mean spirited thought-denial brain police that perpetuate nay legislate heart stopping bulimia riddled separation anxieties into federal cases...they owe terry schiavo a most profound & belated apology on these matters. not more ignorance & obfuscation.
so what is roger ailes after all? purveyor of mental illness. its good for his ratings (bad for congress & getting worse) that america is filled (at this time) with 50.2% ignorance and cravenly proud of it.
