Is it a dick thing?
Kobe Bryant was just charged with sexual assault.

Such a promising career going down in flames, cause he listened (ALLEGEDLY) to Little Kobe when he shouldn't have.

So men my question to you is: Is it a dick thing?

By no means am I trying to lump all of you in the "dog" category, but I think I'm safe in assuming that more men get into trouble over extramarital dalliances than women.

2. I have no idea
I can't see myself doing it, and I know of many woman who cheat on their husbands too. But I guess men are more prone to doing it maybe because they are mroe sexually charged (in general but not specifically) than woman. Woman will do it too. Maybe though there is a general feeling in society that it is worse for woman to cheat then men? I mean really, who would get a badder rap, a man who cheated on his wife and remarried, or a woman who cheated on her husband? I think it owuld be harder for a woman to regain her reputation, which is certainly unfair.

women just have FAR MORE TO LOSE from such behaviour (pregnancy, physical violence, etc.)

48. Actually, after extensive scientific study, it is found that men who are
bald in front are great thinkers, and men who are bald in back are great sexually.

And men who are completely bald just think they're sexy!

3. I don't have a dick but I think the last Hite report demonstrated
infidelity was roughly equal if I am not mistaken. The reasons were different, however but I am going off memory.

In the case of entertainers, athletes and corporatists such as Jack Welch who have obtained celebrity status, I think it is more of a "power" trip. They have so many of life's basic needs handled that their brain leads them to believe they should be able to have anything they want and can afford.

that 25% of children born in marriages are from the mother's indiscretions with other men.

That's amazing!

I agree that both men and women cheat equally.

43. A while ago I read
about a study done in the 1940's or 50's using blood type proving that 10% of children were not fathered by their mother's husband. The results weren't released for years because many feared a backlash.

I think women may cheat slightly less but only because of societal pressures. In general I think women tend to be more discreet than men.

8. speaking as an owner/operator myself...
I'm not so sure it's as much an anatomy thing as much as social. Anyone with lots of power and prestige will face temptation, especially knowing that it's readily available.

In my experiences, I've seen it from both sides pretty much equally..

that being said, I know next to nothing about sports, for all I know Kobe could be an NBC weatherman :-)

10. I don't understand why anyone cheats, male or female.
I just don't get it--especially those who claim to love their spouse (and children, if applicable). These folks are so lucky to have someone to love and be loved by, to share their lives with. They're so fucking lucky--yet they cheat! Man, I WISH I had someone to love and be loved by: I think that's the best thing in this world to have.

31. Not everyone is naturally monogamous
For some of us, it just doesn't work. It's very possible - indeed probable - to be lustful for others no matter how much you love your mate. The sensible marriage admits this, is open about it, and finds a way to deal with that temptation. Every marriage works out their own rules.

21. Innocent until proven guilty
the charge does not make him guilty. As a celtics fan i have no love for kobe bryant but I won't assume he committed a crime until the facts are available and he has been convicted of doing so. The reason his career might be ruined is because too many people assume that just becuase the charge has been leveled that he did in fact commit the crime.

22. Let's make a distinction here
Cat, there's a difference between "cheating" and "sexual assault." I think Kobe is accused of sexual assault, and if he's guilty of that then George Bush really IS the president! Not for an instant do I believe that!

As another "owner/operator" (love that line!!!) no, I don't think it's a dick thing. Last time I checked (not that I'm checking, mind you) it takes two to tango! :-)

Money for nothing and the chicks are free. How sporting is it for a dork like Kobe to to harvest hoes from the help list at the dump he was staying. It is like shooting fish in a barrel. Same as a high school teacher who fucks his students. If he wants to get his freak on start with all the hoes in LA who would ride the pole for peanuts. But noooooo! He is married and must maintain his pee pee at home.

26. Are we sure that it actually happened?
I think we are jumping the gun a teeny bit here. He has just been charged with sexual assault, not convicted. There are two sides to this story - hers AND his. Obviously, hers has been told, and was credible enough to be taken seriously.

However, it may not be credible in the end (hopefully that is what the courts will decide). There is the possibility - and don't flame me here - that she may have been trying to set him up for an out of court settlement (he has pretty deep pockets) or her '15 minutes of fame'.

Point is, we don't know yet.

32. This coming from a gay man, what I'm about to say speaks volumes
It is not a dick thing.

It is a "What I want to do with my dick" thing.

Many guys just don't like being ethical, moral, or civil. They want to get their rocks off and don't care how. They will cheat, they will hurt, they will do what it takes in order to "get happy".

It's just a matter of degree of which they take risks to "get happy".

Most men are satisfied with cheating on their "loved ones". Just goes to show they don't know what love is. Obviously they know lust, but not love.

Some men are so vile they'll assault or rape or do something far worse.

Feel free to put (most of) us in the dog category. You're being too polite; most of us are actually pigs.

I can't trust a man so I don't even bother with 'getting my rocks off' with one. And, yes, there are times when I do get lonely and there are times I have 'psychological problems' because I don't have anyone to "get happy" with. That sure as hell doesn't give me the right to assault anybody or anything else.

Again, it is not a dick thing but how the man wants to deal with his dick.

And that makes some men very dangerous. :-( Castration doesn't seem cruel or unusual as a punishment. The punishment ought to fit the crime anyway.

It all makes one wonder; is avoiding the situation the best possible solution? If everybody had as much sense, we'd be a doomed species. Knowing how I sometimes get cynical, I'm not going to take this tangent any further.

women can be pigs too. A lot of people are just selfish critters who don't think of consequences, only immediate gratification.

There's ways to deal with nonmonogamy without cheating, lying, and hurting others.

I thought there was a rule against sexist posts. Is there a double standard at DU, when it come to bashing men.

Why not ask how did his mother raise him? I've seen many mothers wait hand and foot on their little boys and treat their daughters like they are maids. Doesn't this rapist mindset start in childhood?

Kobe could have had a discrete professional to service his needs but for some reason decided the 19 year old front desk wannabe star was who he would have his dalliance with. Dont get me wrong, cheating on your spouse is a huge mistake but his lack of judgement is stunning. Did he really think that he could have sex with this woman and that would be the end of it, that she would zip her lip and go on quietly like nothing happened? I know, he wasnt thinking at all.
