The next pope will be named...
George Ringo. :-)

(Now don't get all huffy on me, this joke first came out when John Paul became pope.)

1. Not getting huffy, but...
is now the proper time for a joke?

3. Why not?
John Paul had a long fulfilling life, he helped change the world, and he had a sense of humor.

I still remember the Saturday Night Live sketch where during one of the Pope's tours, some celebrity gate-crashers tried getting in.
John Paul saw that sketch, and had a good laugh from it.

5. I just don't think it is
very respectful. Sorry.

4. Was it just a Wisconsin thing ...
... to use 'Is the Pope Polish?' as a response to a question with an obviously 'hell no' answer ?

I remember how my friends and I chuckled when JPII was chosen, because none of our parents/elders would be able to use that statement anymore, because the answer would be "YES".

(I grew up in Green Bay, btw)
