I was worried that I'd be up all night tonight trying to finish it for tomorrow, but I managed to finish it last night. Of course, after working so hard on it with the intent to give it away (it's a wedding present) I most certainly will part w/ it. But honestly--it's so pretty that I want to keep it.
My hands are SCREAMING at me to leave the crochet hook alone for a while.

and wanted to start again, do you have any advice? I can't even remember how to do a chain stitch. However, a friend from NM just gave me an afghan of yellows, oranges, browns, that so reminds me of NM -- I'm enchanted. So I thought I might try it again for gifting.

I remember that some were better than others, but I can't remember which ones were better and which ones were less helpful.
Check your local craft/yarn store and look them over. Most of them you can open up and read, so if it doesn't read well, you won't find it useful.
Stay away from patterns that involve multiple strands on yarn--to start.
And work on something small, like a scarf or placemat.

I was given numerous afghans as a young girl. I cherish them so much! Give your hands a rest now!
