Taking a moment to tell DU...
How terrific all of you are. Really. You have made an unbearably sad situation a little lighter for the Grumpy family. Your responses and PM's with regards to my post the other night have overwhelmed me. I am pretty cynical when it comes to internet friendships...and you've proven me wrong. Compassion runs rampant in this place, and that...friends... is a beautiful thing.

Thanks from the depths of my person,
Laura

1. I am
only 2 days in here...many years on the net. But I didn't feel qualified to tell you how much sympathy I have for you.
I have found most (not all) people on the net to be very good folks! I have met quite a few in person, and this has given me more of a sense of globalness...how we are more alike than different...than any other thing I could imagine. I hope this post finds you well and safe...

Only on 2 days and already 80 postings. I logged on a day before you but can't do 80 postings. Must be that "women say twice as many words as men do" thing.

5. Regardless of your time here...

or your post #, you are always welcome to put your ideas or feelings down.

Some may look at post counts, but that is relatively rare. Usually post counts and time on board are used to expose lurking freepers.

BTW: welcome to DU! :toast:

edited: darn spelling again!

I'm not sure what you mean. I find myself doing much more reading of other's posting than I spend writing right now. Maybe that'll change, maybe not. Probably depends on the mood I'm in that day.

3. Everyone really comes through when there is a crisis (as I know you
know!) here. When my dad died in May, I was overwhelmed with the wonderful posts, karma, and prayers I received.

God bless you, girlfriend. We love you!

4. I am not in the least surprised...
the outpouring of compassion and sympathy that comes from DUer's.

As long as i've been here, I've always said, "these are the greatest people I've never met". Time after time, regardless of the crisis, I've seen DUer's come forth with heartfelt sympathy and wisdom far above what society normally sees.

In public, the nation often seems cynical, cold and heartless. But for what it is worth, coming into DU is like coming home. No other site has this intimacy, (at least none I've come across), and that is why I feel as if a certain part of me has been amputated each time someone leaves.

Of course, I do not agree with everyone here, and sometimes it can get pretty warm, with the flamefests and all. But when it comes down to the sincerity that people have, with very few exceptions, DU is the place that will become a legend. I feel exceptionally fortunate to have stumbled across DU a while back, and now, I don't know how I lived without it.

7. That's the big difference between Dems and Repubs
Compassion. Like I read a few weeks ago: It takes more guts to be a liberal than a conservative, because it's a lot harder to lend someone in need a hand than give them the finger. (I love that quote)

and sums up the situation with brevity and eloquence. I love it!
