8. Weirdest state in the US regarding DST: Indiana |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 11:13 AM by mcscajun
Too confusing, totally. State is already split (like others are) between two time zones; but parts of the state observe DST and some dont. http://www.timetemperature.com/tzus/indiana_time_zone.shtml

9. You can cross two county lines in Indiana and be in three different |
|
time zones. It is hysterical and confusing.
I never figured out why it is so important for Indiana to be on New York time in the winter but not in the summer>
Of course I never figured out why Louisville is in the Eastern time zone either, but that is another issue altogether.
I remember going to a little country restaurant one Saturday night for supper and it was nearly 8 pm. The cafe was about to close. Guy looks at his watch and says, "go over to Marengo it's only 7 o'clock over there and you can get dinner." So we did. The town we were in was on Louisville time (Eastern Daylight), Marengo was on Eastern Standard time and a couple of counties to the west it was Central Standard.
About 20 years ago the state decided to put Evansville on same time as Indianapolis. What an uproar!!!!
First of all, nobody wanted to have to wait until 11 pm for the nightly news. And if we were that far west and still in Eastern time, it would be 10 pm before it was dark. Everything around Evansville is on Central anyway. After a few public hearings, the Legislature just sort of skulked away into the night, And Evansville stayed on Chicago time.
