Baby Showers. I just had to attend one. |
|
I find 250 people a bit much for a baby shower. Perhaps these people (my husband's best friend, whom I adore...and his wife, whom we adore not nearly as much) really are close to this many people. Perhaps not...
It was long. Very long. It would have been longer, but we didn't actually open the gifts. Baby girl was born yesterday 1.5 pounds, itty bitty....but expected to thrive.
This is a man who deserves all manner of wonderful things in his life.
But the shower? Ick.

Wow. What an intimate affair.
The most people I've ever seen at a shower is maybe 25. Maybe.

2. 250 people at a baby shower? Good heavens. Usually there are |
|
25 at the most, seems to me. 250 people are a lot for a WEDDING, much less a baby shower. But that's just me.

12. There were around 15 at mine and it was at my mother in law's house. |
|
When my daughter was born 8 years before, 7 people came over to my best girlfriend's house and surprised me. And they were the 7 people who meant the most in the world to me...save a few who couldn't make it. :hi:

7. Nope. Baby is a preemie and wasn't expected until June 1. Born April 1. |

Talk about your April Fool's eh? Mom is still in the hospital. Dad stood in...and yes they are misguided Lion's fans. ;)

5. Those rituals are becoming more and more bizarre, aren't they? |
|
At one time, a shower was supposed to involve a woman's close friends and family, they play silly games, eat cake, open presents, and leave. Two hours, tops. 250 people at a shower is beyond strange.
The baby was born yesterday?? Premature, I presume? I hope everything works out well.

15. 250 people for a babu shower? ROFLMAO! It really wasn't the coming of |
|
a new god, it really was just a baby... very sad it was born with such difficulties though. I imagine they might have had trouble conceiving, hence the big to-do?
I didn't have a baby shower or a baptism for my daughter, who's now almost 12. I'm getting married in 2 weeks, and we're not even having a wedding or reception, just a civil ceremony, drinks at the Beverly Hills Hotel and a nice dinner with about 8 other friends. I just don't understand all these hallmark celebratory thingies. I'm not much for sentiment I suppose.

16. No problems conceiving. She and her mom tend to "overdo" things. |
|
It's crazy. MrG and I were married in a civil ceremony with just our families attending. His mom wanted a big "to do" but it wasn't going to happen. People tend to lose focus on what's important.
They actually weren't planning (at least he wasn't) on children for a few years. She's doing really good though. :hi:

God, I have been to Kansas City Royals game that didn't have 250 people there.
I would rather have a railroad spike driven into my forehead than to sit through something like that.
Any man who attended, and sat, through the whole thing deserves something "special" to happen to him tonight.

18. I've about given up on these gatherings |
|
Unless it's truly a close friend of mine. Weddings, showers, all those events seem to be turning into greed-fests. Or maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.
People I work with who I've had the dubious pleasure of hearing plan their weddings openly talk about how they've padded the guest list in order to get more gifts. Invitations openly invite you to participate in "money trees" or "dollar dances" or to contribute money to the couple for their honeymoon! I feel like I'm being shaken down every time I'm invited to such a thing.
I give gifts to people because I like them and want to get them a gift. I'm sick of feeling obliged to purchase expensive items for people I barely know. Inviting 250 people to a baby shower just strikes me as over the top.

We are not close to her...and, sadly, not as close to her husband who was like a brother to us at one point. :(
