Not that I expect a lot. In defense of the Rays their record last year was better than it might indicate. If you throw out the series with the Yankees and Red Sox they had a .500 record.
They are actually in a position not unlike the Tampa Bay Lighting were in. They have been down so long they have a lot of good prospects in their farm system because of their positions in the draft for so many years.
The real problem for them is being in a division with the Yankees and Red Sox. They can't compete with them salary wise. If they can't afford to re-sign the players they develop they risk becoming a minor league team for them.

I think one can make a solid case that in another divison playoffs would not have been at least within the realm of thinking about by this point.
So far they seem willing to keep signing the young talent.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You're right. If they don't keep them signed that will be the time to throw in the towel.
