2. I don't listen to her stuff, but she undeniably very talented.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't point out how lovely she is as well!

7. She played the club I worked at

She insisted no sales could be rung up during the show...the cash register noise would "disturb her performance". She insisted no waitresses could work the floor in front of the stage during the show...it would be "distracting". She insisted the air conditioning be turned off during her show, as "there are quiet parts of the performance and I don't want it interrupted by the air kicking on".

Then she proceeded to sit astride her piano bench and grind her crotch into it during the whole show. I don't mean normal (if there is such thing) "swaying to the music" kind of motion...I mean blatently deliberate legs-spread grinding. All the while talking about how women need to stand up, respect themselves and not be victimized, her "spirituality", her pastor father, etc.

It was the most ridiculous and pathetic display of pretense I have ever witnessed in my entire life.


So, yeah. She ain't too high on my list. :eyes:

10. "Pretense". Yeah, that's it. She's the most pretentious performer...

... I've ever seen. I've heard that stuff about sales and such, too.

She has some talent, I'll grant. And the pretentiousness wouldn't be so bad (it IS a "rock star" thing) if she wasn't so blatantly ripping off another artist (Kate Bush).

She reminds me of when an American TV network tries to imitate a BBC sitcom hit. Now, I haven't seen "The Office" with steve Carrel (sp?), and I understand it is okay. But I think about the American versions of "Coupling", "Men Behaving Badly", and some older ones. A few years back, Beatrice Arthur was cast in a Fawlty Towers imitation called Amanda's. The plots and even dialogue were lifted straight from Fawlty Towers. She just came off as looking ridiculous.

So does Tori Amos, IMHO.

Seriously, though, I kinda dig her. A little over the top sometimes but, hey, nothing ventured - nothing gained. I have a few of her CDs.
