I love that movie!

No one, I mean no one, could play a slime-bag boss better then Dabney Coleman.

5. Donald Trump plays himself on TV. But in terms of acting, you're right.
:D Trump's no actor, but he can weasel out of his debts any time he likes.

6. Please try to recast Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lilly Tomlin with
actors available today and justify a remake....No way, no how, no time. The movie has already been done as right as is possible.

8. As Bender might say,
"Well, I'm boned."

I can't think of even ONE actress to play any of those roles.

Amazing how time and indolence render people impotent.

9. Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore
Okay, so not a one of them fit any of the parts. When has that ever stopped anyone in Hollywood from casting? And, while we're at it, let's portray it as a serious science-fiction melodrama.

19. Pam Anderson, Natalie Portman & Janeane Garafalo?
Of course, it's early and I haven't had my coffee yet. But, you have the supposed busty blonde bimbo; the pretty but shy intellectual played by a smart woman; and you have a comedian.

13. 9 to 5 is pactically a historical documentary
an office with no computers at all!
a huge room size Xerox copier
bulky phone receivers with shoulder rests
typewriters that hum louder than a furnace

and find me ONE worker who actually work 9AM to 5PM! Sweet Jesus that would be nice!

21. When that movie came out, "9-to-5" was unheard of
I, along with most people, was working a minimum 9-to-5:30 at the time. And that's only if you took just 30 minutes for lunch. The movie always seemed clueless to me in that respect. If it were remade today, it'd be 9-to-6.

25. well, back in the 70s & 80s...
I work in Hartford, CT, which had some huge corporate insurance offices back in the 70s & 80s. Back then, the typical hours of most employees were 7:30 to 3:40 or 8:00 to 4:10, which included 40 minutes for lunch. Most companies had a 37 1/2 hour work week. However, things like job-sharing, flex-time, family leave, working at home 1 or 2 times a week, etc were basically unheard of.

That has since been changed. While most companies are more flexible with hours - I remember when I worked at one insurance company, we had a woman that worked 6:00am to 2:10 each day... - and, they allow things like telecommuting, job sharing, etc, they have also gone to a 40 hour work week.

And, while still not diverse enough, there is much greater diversity in middle & senior management than there was back in the 70s. Some of the big insurance companies are often rated as good places to work for women, minorities, gays/lesbians. Just in Hartford alone, the president of Aetna is African American, the CEO of the Hartford is Indian, the CEO of Phoenix is a woman...Bill Clinton's original nominee for Attorney General, Zoe Baird, came from Aetna. I'm guessing that back in the 70s, they were all white males at those positions.

The casting was perfect. Do NOT, under penalty of death, remake this film.
