McAfee is driving me crazy
I wrote them this email and they nver answered
quote.....

I have McAfee virus and firewall for about 9 months and it worked fine. Last week you tried to update my virus protection and after trying it 5X it kept telling me to upgrade my windows '98 4.4. I can't and won't because by year end I am going to change operating systems. It worked just fine for 9 months why is it not working now? We have 2 choices., either fix the problem or I'll not renew in June. Every time I boot up it trys to update me and it's getting annoying. I spent 1 hour last week chatting with someone on your IM. I told her what it was saying and all she could FINALLY after 1 hour, said I need to upgrade my operating system! It worked just fine for 9 months with 4.4. I see no reasons why I should have to do that. Please do not give me a customer service response. I expect someone from tech support to fix this problem.
your assistance would be appreciated
end quote....
Since I nver bough my win '98 I have no way to upgrade it for free and have no money to do this now. Any recommendations? PLEASE, don't mention Firefox...I'm not smart enough to use it. I really like having virus protection.
I'm not spending $3.95/minute to talk to these idiots

1. Well don't switch to Norton
I updated a couple weeks ago and it's crazy. All different than the old version. Check over at the computer board they were talking about some good free program.

2. Drop it and go with AVG
I use the pay version because they deserve it.

4. Yes, someone turned me on to AVG here at DU and it is GREAT.
Maybe it was you that recommended it.

Norton was giving me false virus alarms and all sorts of weird crap.

I love AVG and it does a great job and is hassle free.

3. I hate McAfee - and they were no help at all fixing my problems
with XP. They wanted $3.95 a minute to talk to someone who didn't have anymore of a clue than I did. (Note - they said the first 10 minutes were free, I talked for exactly four and a half minutes before I hung up - knew it was a waste. Got my phone bill the next month and there was a $55.00 phone charge for tech support. I challenged it with my phone company, it was removed and I never paid thing.)

I finally ended up restoring the computer to a date before the upgrade and it has worked fine ever since. I would like to get rid of the entire program but that is what started my problem. I tried to uninstall - no can do, then ended up re-installing, still didn't fix it, finally just restored back to before the mess started. But it took several days before I figured out what to do. Hope this helps a bit - I am certainly not a computer guru.
