RW California defense industry Senator plots with RW US Pentagon chiefs to stage a coup, released shortly after JFK's assassination.
You know that's Hollywood though because in the movie democracy survived intact, unlike today.

3. The Candidate with Robert Redford

is a good political movie. Gritty and real. Also, A Face in the Crowd. Both movies are intelligent and unpredictable. We could use more of that combination.

not so much political per se, but does show who war affects the most: the children

[More Than A Feeling]

7. That was a tragically beautiful movie

Another one with a nice political message: Princess Mononoke.
