Regarding Multiple Threads..................... |
|
I have not seen this covered before so let me ask (but I shall start with an observation).
This morning there are many threads on Charles and Camilla, the gay republican who married his partner, the pope-a-thon, etc. Whatever the issue or event, there are dupes posted everywhere. I must say I have been guilty too, posting breaking news while two others were posting the same story at the same time.
Do "you" ever read through DU to see whats up and happening BEFORE posting what you have either seen or heard on TV or the papers?
Is is just for vanity to see your name starting a thread?
Not really trying to start something, it seems that sometimes the redundancy is overwhelming.

2. it is sometimes difficult to determine if a post is a dupe |
|
In LBN for example, is a separate news report on a topic that already has a thread a dupe or a new thread? Looks like a judgement call to me. One news report could have the facts wrong or could have a completely different slant than another. Why force them to be one thread?
In general I find the topic threading here difficult to follow when a topic has more than 10-20 posts. I'm not sure I know how to make it better, but the point is that keeping everything related in one thread is perhaps not the greatest idea.

4. I tend to read a lot before I start a thread. |
|
I'm more of a poster than a "start-a-threader"; I'd guess maybe 1% of my posts are thread-starters.
Just the way I operate.
And if I'm thinking of starting a thread in LBN or the Editorials page, I definitely do a search first.
