What era/genre of music would you keep?
If all music was going to be banished from your life forever, and you could salvage only one genre/era which would it be?

I'm voting renaissance. I listen to more music from other eras, but there is something about the renaissance which can fit me in any mood at all. Particularly as most of it is only vocal - the purity of the human voice and all of that.

1. Silence
I would rather have total silence to listen to rather than just one kind of music. That would be like Living Hell.

4. I couldn't imagine life without music
I'm have it playing in the background pretty all of the time that I can; even when it's not playing I tend to be running something through in my mind, or quietly singing to myself.

This is also the odd thing about me renassiance music - although it lacks the breadth of variability of later forms, I have never wanted to tear a C.D. of it out of the player and throw it across the room (as I have with just about everything else).

7. OK but are you really convinced you could tolerate a steady diet of that
and nothing but that, forever, for the rest of your days? How many days do you think you have left?

8. I'm not convinced as I haven't tried it
But I would note that the great and available music variety which we take for granted is a very modern development.

The main point is whatever my mood (and I am a very moody person), I can put it on happily, and I have never tired of it yet.

I'm still young, and so would hope for a fair few more days - but as I say I cannot even contemplate life without music, it's just too distant for my comprehension.

3. golden age hip hop
anything released between run dmc's 'raising hell' and dr. dre's 'the chronic'

sure there have been great acts and albums before and after those albums but that golden era is when hip hop really first hit it's creative stride and the end result is some of the greatest music every created

6. Jazz, because its variety is infinite, it's based in the blues, and it's
the sound of America at its best.

And it swings.
