4. Same Here - in 1971
I fell off a platform on my high school stage, and woke up four hours later in the hospital. I had a concussion, a bruised shoulder, and they held me for a few days for observation.

A few nights later, I awoke around 2 AM with horrible abdominal pain. The next morning, my MD called in a specialist. they discovered I was bleeding internally and rushed me in to surgery. it seemed that when I fell, one of my ribs had punctured a capillary in my spleen, and it started swelling like a balloon.

The surgeon later told me that my spleen burst in his hand as he was removing it. Talk about good timing......

ITP... idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, also known as immune thrombocytopenic purpura, it's classified as an autoimmune disease. In an autoimmune disease the body mounts an attack toward one or more otherwise normal organ systems. In ITP, platelets are the target. They are marked as foreign by the immune system and eliminated in the spleen, or sometimes the liver.

on edit: clarification.
