There were 25-30 wild turkeys in my front yard this morning
One of my Boston Terriers was barking on the front porch and I went out there with the squirt bottle to shut him up, it was about 7:15. Then I realized why he was barking. They were strutting their stuff all over the front yard and into the street.

I don't live out in the country, it is in a village. We had seen a flock of them before down on the beach, but never here in the yard. I think they followed the beach down here and then wandered into the streets. They hung around for awhile until a kid who was working on the house at the end of the street came barreling up the street in his loud truck and the turkeys took off between the houses across the street.

Just an interesting little wildlife story.

1. I was in Parsippany, NJ a while back, and...
5 or 6 of them landed on the hood of my car.

Sliding off and trying to get back on... They're not too bright.

Seems like breeding season they're all over the place, looking for...something.

3. Tons of them here
always in the yard. Right now the Tom's are strutting with their tails up and open. I love it when I have to stop on my road and wait for them all to cross, hundreds of them. It won't be long until we have to start waiting for the Hen's and their little babies all in a row. I always look forward to that. On my 10 mile trip to the farm I usually have to stop 2 or 3 times for turkey to cross. There are an awful lot of them since the coyote mostly died out from the mange (thanks Oklahoma and Texas, it was a great idea to introduce that into the population).

10. We used to
but turkey and quail do not mix. I still hear the quail but rarely see them. It is very cute. I often have to stop for ducks too.

6. I've seen flocks of turkeys by the side of the road
several times. My husband always told me I was mistaken, and they had to have been vultures...until he saw a flock of them himself. :D

with a squirt bottle. It's not just for cats anymore. Disclaimer: it doesn't work on labs and other water breeds, they just love it.

Yes, these dogs are so abused, that's why they sleep in the bed, under the covers, with us.

15. about a year and a quarter ago
when I was driving my kid to school, we hung a right out of the driveway.

When, what to our wondering eyes should appear. . .but my cousin's turkey's, who's wings he hadn't the heart to clip and who had been running rough shot all over the neighborhood for months, walking in lockstep across our road blocking the passage of an enormous eighteen wheeler. It was a trukey parade !!! They looked like they were impersonating the North Korean army. The look on the blocked trucker's face was one of total exasperation. Being blocked entirely by innocuous foul. Sheesh.

My son went to tell my cousin of the problem and had to take a state test that day, and wrote about his good deed. So it's been immortalized, eternally.

Was really something I wish I photographed and was immensely funny.
