Do any of you parents have techniques you apply to kid's dates?
I usually had at least one pistol in my hands when boys came by to visit either of my step-Daughters. The girls thought it was harassment. I'd simple explain it was a convenient time to clean my weapons...

5. No, I don't. I just meet the boys and size 'em up.
Some I like, some I don't like. I really like my daughter's current boyfriend, which is good. He spends a lot of time here, and they are going to two proms together (the first one is tonight).

9. As do I, but I think I'm a pretty good judge.
He's head and shoulders above anyone she's ever brought home before.

I took an instant dislike to her first high school boyfriend (she was a sophomore and he was a junior), and my instincts proved to be true in that case.

12. My cousin is hilarious.
He takes the guy on a motorbike ride on his Harley. If the guy will agree to get close enough to him to ride on the bike, and will hold on to him, then he lets him go out with his daughter, AFTER scaring the shit out of him on the motorbike.

LOL!

15. My Dad always made sure he was heard and not seen
That way the guy can't have a physical idea of what he looked like, only that a masculan voice was booming down the hallway.

And my daughter is a great young lady. She's nineteen, going to community college to save money, reproductively responsible.
Now, my fifteen year old son is a real challenge.

30. Support your girls--let them know they don' t have to please each and
every boy who comes into their lives. Help them understand their worth and their value--and a little self defense training never hurts! Really, have an agreement that they can call you from anywhere at any time and not get in trouble with you--in case they really do need rescuing. Once I had to call my dad from a drug house--didn't understand what was happening until it was too late--since I knew I could call without being in serious trouble--I called.

Girls have real power--be sure you let them know you believe it. Then, the boys won't be as big a problem for you. (Um, also, girls like sex too you know. Help them build in their own limits.)

Just being home and visible, eye contact and all, lets the boy and the daughter know there is someone else watching their behavior.

IMHO.

seeing some she brought home. She has a great responsable boyfriend now. I don't want to scare him off.
