They slow my data entry process because every now and then I have to key rebate forms from Canada. I think they should inconvience everyone who lives there to make my job easier.

They have alternating numbers and letters starting with a letter.. for example, K4M 3S7
Don't know about European, it could be random.

6. The first letter denotes a particular province. |

But the letter is not necesarily the same as the first letter of the province's name. ex: T6E 4D7, the t is for Alberta.

Although I think in less densely populated areas, a postal code covers a lot more than a block.
