9. I think the entire discussion is crazy but cut the lady some slack.
She said several times that she was not advocating shooting cats. She is a cat owner herself but the goal, as a "wildlife officer" (I forgot her exact title) is to bring the issue before the legislature and that is all. Someone, somewhere equating control the population with the idea of shooting the cats. She said that was not what they were suggesting. They are trying to get some action to control feral cats because they are destroying other types of wild life. They have two million feral cats and that does need to be address. That said, she was definitely looking for a way to get rid of some cats and she didn't rule it out completely while offering alternatives solutions. Wisconsin sounds like they have a nightmare on their hands no matter what happens.

17. I'm getting angry just thinking about it
I'm tempted to go to Wisconsin with some of my rifles and start hunting cat hunters
When they ask why after I am arrested I'll tell them Wisconsin has too many people and they are destroying nature. population control.

11. Way too many feral cats...
I love housecats as much as the next guy, but being elbow-deep in feral cats breeding like crazy and killing real wildlife is a problem. This idea that they could all be trapped and fixed/adopted is pure fantasy... the shelters are already overflowing, and there'd be zero money in the budget to pay for surgery for feral cats (especially when there isn't similar money for household pets). Bob Barker was right about getting your pets fixed... that's what's led to the feral problem in the first place.

If you're going to get outraged about this kind of thing, how about the hunting of wild horses, bison, etc. that are quietly going on out west? I can guarantee that housecats will never be driven to extinction, but plenty of other species will be.

18. Have to agree...
In the wild, cats are predators just like foxes, badgers, or anything else. While all of those other species are hunted and trapped, feral cats are "protected" because of our fondness for their domesitcated cousins. Having one predator protected from hunting is going to cause its numbers to grow at the expense of the other species. The other predators could find themselves seriously endangered if the cats' population growth isn't checked. I don't know if that's the case in northern Wisconsin, but if it is, hunting feral cats is sound wildlife management.

And by the way, I have two cats in my house and put up with me tolerably well.

12. Over here Countdown is a quiz show
Based around the use of letters and numbers - I can't quite imagine them talking about shooting cats.

19. Feral Cats
I posted this on another thread that was locked, so I've moved it here.

On and off for 20 years, I have worked with groups who capture feral cats and have them spayed. Most of the feral cats I have known were ANYTHING BUT DANGEROUS! Many feral cat communities are started by pets that are abandoned. The people that abandon them should be in prison.

I have tamed many feral cats over the years. Some I keep and some I put up for adoption. The love and affection I have received from these felines cannot be measured.

Right now, I have an 8 year-old part Siamese cat named Cady (after Elizabeth Cady Stanton) that was born to a feral mother cat. Catching her and her siblings was not easy, but she is one of the joys of my life. She was worth the trouble.

Thank goodness they don't shoot cats in SC!

These animals deserve the right to exists whether they are owned by humans or not.

20. oh they shoot cats just fine in South Carolina
They shoot dogs there too. Don't tell me differently, I've lived there. My dog (properly collared but improperly roaming about) was one that was shot.

The shooters just don't share the information with you.

The mistake of the Wisconsin residents is, apparently, trying to de-populate some of these feral cats by working within the system and getting a legal hunt instead of just quietly taking care of the problem off the books.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
